Great picture Sue. I love Rosamond and your other cross is very pretty. Might have some great babies from the cross between the two.
Gypsy Queen x Jean Pasko seeds
Sue, Your seeds have arrived. I will start them this coming week. Happy Spring!!!!!
Beautiful picture, Sue. Can't wait to see the bloom this year.
Well, I finally got my seeds soaked and peeled and will plant them tomorrow in a soiless seed starting mix. I'm out of RW, so this will be a fun change! Thank you again, Sue!
Let us know how you do Gretchen. I just planted some on dirt Monika's way. There have been so many rave reviews I decided to try it again. Sure is cheaper! LOL
Tree_Climber, if Poppysue did not have any left I have tons. Send me you address. I am sending out seeds this week.
I got your seed today, Poppysue, thanks so much. Now I have 2 questions. How long do they take to germinate and how long until they are big enough to bloom?
Oh another one: is there a good look about growing these from seed?
Germination can vary. Thes Gypsy Queen seeds took 4-5 weeks for me. Some seeds will germinate much quicker tho... 1 or 2 weeks. Time will also vary for your first blooms. I have had seedlings bloom the first year... although, it usually isn't until late in the summer. If you give them the best possible care, lots of fertilizer, and lots of water... the chances of first year blooms will be pretty good. Still... it seems like some seedlings will take their sweet ol time no matter what you do. I have a few that haven't bloomed in two years now. If they don't spit out any flowers this summer they'll be in the compost heap by fall.

One hint I've found very helpful is to soak seeds in a solution of 1 part bleach to 9 parts water for 10 minutes or more before you plant them. It will cut down on any rotting problems. If seeds are big enough I prefer to soak them overnite, peel the corky coat off and then give them the bleach soak before they go into the potting medium.
Good luck with your seeds. I hope you get something good from them!
Thank you so much, poppysue. I will keep you posted on the progress. I am so excited. I don't even know what color these are supposed to be.....
Thanks for the post Sue! Lots of helpful information :)
Another to die for orange, makes me wish I had jumped on some of these seeds,I hope we get some great pics this year, this could be a great cross.
I'm with you Bob. I love a good orange brug.
If the seedlings look anything like the cross, wowser!
These seeds seemed very soft (fresh?) - I accidentally nicked a couple with my nail while peeling off the outer layer. Then, some rotted while I deno'd them. Maybe those were the nicked ones. BTW, they had all been soaked in a 10% bleach solution before being placed between 2 dampened paper towels in a ziploc baggie. The remaining seeds sprouted within 3 weeks of soaking/peeling/deno/soil - they were *not* sprouting when removed from the paper towels but did soon after going into potting mix.
Eileen
Root so ORANGE is your favorite color of brug?
No Ladyswan,I like White,I was just on an Orange kick for Easter.LOL,There are some great oranges out there Eh?
Mine are starting to sprout! They have been in soil mix from the beginning, after soaking overnight. I hope I get a lot of them. I never peeled them, and when the subject came up, one of the bruggie growers said it was unnecessary.
I think orange is my favorite color of bruggie and also in roses. I especially love Tropicana, which is a coral red, quite an unusual color, and can't quite be called orange, but.......in that family.
Good for you Betty! You will have to post pics soon!
I finally found a bag to put my peat pellets in with the seeds; an oven-roasting bag! LOL (Now watch someone tell me that iwll kill them).
Poppysue: My Gypsy Queen/Jean Pasko seeds have sprouted! One of the peat pots at least. It has three plants but nothing yet from the other 5 peat pots yet. I put them on a heating pad for 10 days after soaking them overnight. It took about two weeks for them to sprout. Maybe some of the others will sprout. Can't wait to see how they turn out! Sounds like they may take a year or two.
Way to go. Would never have thought of a roasting bag. Gardeners come up with the best information. Thanks.
I'm glad to hear you all are getting some germination. I planted mine in rock wool. It took 4 to 6 weeks for most of them to germinate. There are still a few that haven't sprouted. They don't look rotten... but they aren't growing either.
So the rockwool is not working well for you SUe?
Abbethel, did you use a regular heating pad or a special one for plants? I am always afraid I will start a fire. Did you leave it on 24 hours a day?
So smart Betty, I would never have thought of that.
Well, after 3 days, I noticed it was deflated a bit. So I opened it and checked the peat pellets and they were a bit too dry, so I had to water again and then re-inflate the bag and tie it shut. Sooooo, I'm not too impressed with them; they are apparently somewhat porous
Sue, I wasn't impressed with the rockwool. I like planting in soil better.
I think Rockwool, Rapid Rooters, sponges, etc. all have their place. I was lucky and had good luck with rockwool for brug and canna seeds. I have had better luck using the Monika method of sowing brug seeds. I used the Rapid Rooters for castor bean seeds this year and had great luck. I'm going to try them now with some special Morning Glory seeds. I don't know where I was going with this, but everyone should try germinating seeds Monika's way at least once.
Brugie,
What is Monika's way of growing seeds?
I want to get a copy of her book, but haven't been able to yet.
Email me if it doesn't get put up here and I'll type it out for you. It is simple.
I should have said easy, not simple. LOL!

I've been pleased with the rock wool. I didn't do all my seeds with it but the last few batches I started I used it. I've had pretty good germination results from it.
Geez Treeclimber,I Emailed you when I had Monikas books here,I could have got you one,now you will have to go to Calas site,I was gonna square a fellow Mi. guy away.
Root,
I wouldn't want you to think I ignored an email! If you sent me one, I never got it. I appreciate your trying.
I'll get one eventually. I've visited Cala's site, but didn't find a way to order a book. I'm sure she'll update her site soon so I'll keep checking.
Brug, kindly emailed me the directions for the seed starting process. Thanks again Brug.
TC,it would not be the first time my mail has gone astray!
I hope you get one,did you get any late snow they were calling for up there?
I hope Brug will kindly e-mail me the directions too!
Root,
We missed the snow, this time. We had a hard frost last night, but we are suppose to be in the 60's this weekend. That doesn't mean much though, last April we had an ice storm that knocked out power and closed schools for several days. Our Trees were coated in 1/4 inch of ice for a few days. Granted that was unusual ............ you just never know what Mother Nature will surprise you with.
Thanks, Brug
You're welcome,
Brugie
