Yankee or Dixie????

Sheesh, I couldn't believe it. I was 50% yankee. It said I barely made it into the yankee category. And I even answered pop for soft drink LOL....course I am from
"suthern" OH LOL....I guess 6 years in NC is turning me into a Dixie.

I'm 73% dixie was surprised I would have thought I was 100% dixie.

I got 55 % Dixie, barely. Now Vic, I call pop "soda" and that I learned when I move from Michigan to Texas, however, they said soda was a NE response. We called it "pop" in Michigan. Which NE are they talking about, Pa?

I'm 55% dixie, which is about right for being a Missourian. But still thought I'd be more dixie.

I'm not too sure about this one ... mine came out 52% Dixie! I was born and bred
in Boston! LOL Tried it a second time trying to remember how I would refer to items
as a kid and came out 49% Yankee ... go figure? Lotsa fun tho :-)

46% Yankee. I was born and raised in Washington state, have only lived there, Alaska and Oregon. Where's all that Dixie comming from?

Lisa, how do you say caramel? I had to learn to say soda when we moved down here. If I asked for a soft drink and said pop, people would look at like,,huh??? I had to leave a couple blank too as I wasn't familiar with the term. BTW, I say Kar Mul - I think that's how you spell it if you're trying to sound it out...It's funny, over in the co-op forum there is a daylily co-op and the daylilies are coming from Lebanon OH which is about 20 min from where we lived and where dd lives now. Anyway, depending on where you're from in OH, you could pronounce it Le ba non or Lebnon (all one word) LOL

52%. That surprised me, since I have lived in northeastern Ohio all my life ! I grew up in Cleveland's west side suburbs. Maybe since I live in Green now, which is south about 50 miles, I'm Dixie. Does that make me a Dixie Chick or an old hen ?

Well, I was 40% Yankee and then did it again and was 34% Yankee. I would have thought I was 85% Yankee....Having been born and raised in New England. Does that mean that I am 66% Dixie? :) In North Central Kentucky? Oh my..

For the record, it's "CARE-uh-mel" not to be confused with "CAR-mel" which is a place in California.

Carbonated beverages are cokes - they just come in different flavors ;o) DH's family lives in Leb'non TN - there might be an "a" in the spelled version, but not when you say it...

That's so fun! It's a shorter version of another test I've seen elsewhere...I'll have to dig that up. (Edited to say that it says what the longer test was -- the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey. It's closed now, darn it.)

Now get this: I was born and raised in Illinois, moving to Ohio when the summer before I started high school. I scored "63% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!"

Well I was born and raised in Maine, and I'm still only 54% Yankee, LOL. I've been in MD for almost 11 years.

87% Dixie - course I am a Georgia Peach. Did surprise me a bit, though to be that high.
