Dumb question....

Is it possible to make an email address link inside a post here? I tried it on the test forum and it doesn't seem to make the link. Just thought I would ask.

I've seen others do it, Brugie.

However, if you want someone(s) to email you they can click on your name and that will take them to a page where they can email you.

Just type the e-mail address. Just remember that the first post in any forum except Parking Lot is visible by non-subscribers, and therefore the world. You might want to "munge" it by adding something like NOSPAM to it and tell people to take that part out of the e-mail address.

I don't get it.

I know I can click on a name to get to email, but there have been times that I want someone to email me and just wanted to make it easier for them.

Brugie, just type your email address into the post and it'll become clickable automatically.

I got it Dave. Thanks. I was hoping to be able to put my email into a "Click Here" type thing with the email address embedded.

At the risk of bringing us full circle, there is a "click here" type feature available to us all; when you click on someone's blue-colored name and go to their home page where there's the option to email them. It has the advantage of keeping your email address from being revealed for the world to see...

I like the way you put that Terry. It is nice to have that privacy. I've actually seen people post their home addresses on the forums rather than going the email option. Scary!

Yes, that is an excellent point. Not only that, but if you change ISP's or e-mail addresses, you have to remember where you posted your old one. If you just tell people to e-mail you by clicking your username next to one of your posts and sending mail via DG, you need only change your DG preferences if you change addresses.

Karrie, another large gardening site used to post everyone's personal email addresses for all the world to see (as recently as mid- to late-2001.) There was no way to protect your email address if you chose to post anything or create a member page.

It wasn't until after DG was launched (where Dave had this nifty "hidden address" feature from the get-go), AND a lot of members on that other site started getting hit hard by spammers and pornography emails, that the webmaster wised up and decided to....(hmmm, how should I put this???)...."emulate" what we enjoy here ;o)

(Sometimes bigger isn't always better, huh?) I really like having my email address protected, and as Gardenwife pointed out: if you change addresses you just have to change it in your preferences, and everything (even the old, forgotten threads) will be linked to your new address if someone tries to contact you.
