Not Getting E-mails

I've had a problem with not getting e-mails that are sent to me through Dave's Garden. The only reason I know that I am not getting them is that someone will post that they are e-mailing me and then nothing ever comes. I also tried e-mailing myself through Dave's Garden and I never received that either.

Others have reported this same kind of problem lately.

I recently signed up for a hotmail account to test this, and it didn't accept any of my mail - it thought it was all junk. Sigh. The burden to deliver mail is up to the mail provider (hotmail) and trashing valid mail (false positives) would be unacceptable if I did that to MY customers.

The mail sent from my mail client landed in the junk folder of my new hotmail account. The mail sent through DG never arrived in ANY of the folders.

I recommend using a different, and more stable, free mail service, like perhaps yahoo mail.

Is there any other free mail services besides yahoo and hotmail? Yahoo is not a very good option for me because I can't reply to yahoo mail from webtv, which is what I have at home. Also, I like something that I can access from at home and at work. I can't access my work account at home and I can't access my webtv account at work.

Hmmm...I have Hotmail and it works great for me. Most of my "more than one recipient" emails go to the junk mail folder but I can easily change the address (in this case, from DG) to show it as Safe, thereby having them go to my Inbox.

Kelli, Eudora has a free email program you can download. I used it for a while but wanted more viewing space plus they have an ad on the screen that just seemed to me to be right where I didn't want it! It's a good mail system but I eventually broke down and got their paid version for $20 (I think). Well worth it to me.

Do the e-mails sent through Dave's Garden all have the same domain name? If so, what is it? I can change my account so that everything from that domain is accepted.

That won't work, Kelli. Believe me, I tried everything back when I did my testing. Hotmail is simply unworkable these days. Maybe if you pay them they'll deliver your mail (conspiracy alert!) but maybe not. I am sorry - that's not the answer you want. :(

Juno is free. I have no problems getting email from DG. :)

I think you may have hit the nail on the head, dave.

Yes. A year or so ago I signed up for their "extended storage" account ($20/yr). It came with more filters/features as well as more storage (I think 10 MG...does that sound right?).

My DW uses Hotmail too, and from Day One her email was trashed left and right with junk/spam, etc. (No extended services.) She has no trouble getting her mail but has had to learn to check her junkmail folder just to be sure. With Hotmail the only way to definitely get mail from your friends/businesses sent to your Inbox is to put their addresses in a "safe" address book.

Maybe your next venture is to create an email system for us?

I considered setting up webmail services as a perk for subscribers to DG, but it's just too expensive, due to the bandwidth it would use.

When you start dealing with attachments and such-like, bandwidth really does rack up fast. Maybe one day, but I doubt it. :)

I use hotmail and when someone emails me from DG, sometimes I get it in my regular mailbox and sometimes it goes to my junk. If it goes to my junk, I tell it not to do it again and from then on if that person sends me an email it comes to my inbox. I get very little junk or spam with Hotmail and I do not pay for their extended service. My isp is Earthlink and when I first started using them they only used outlook but now they have a different mail program setup. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that hotmail works for me and I maybe get 3 junk mails a day.

Kell, what settings do you use at Hotmail for your filters?

It's not a filtering issue, because the mail isn't coming into the junk folder. It's just not being delivered at all. Hotmail accepts the mail, but it never reaches the user.

Truly, it doesn't reach the user at all. The filters don't touch it and it doesn't show up in the junk folder. It's just "lost".

Netscape is free. If you can stand the format it is ok.

I was getting mail just fine last week from DG'ers, now I'm not. I have msn explorer, I also tried entering the DG address to my 'safe list' and still no luck. I do have a yahoo account, guess I'll change my address to that. Thanks for all your info guys!

Ok, I emailed msn (I use the free msn explorer with an msn address versus hotmail address) and told them what was going on. A couple of hours later a message box popped up saying msn explorer had an 'internal error' and had to close down, gave me the option to send a report to msn, I did. A few minutes after that I opened my email and found all of the emails that were supposed to be delivered earlier from DG. Go figure!

Hmmm...so it was MSN being the culprit, eh? for shame!

Shoe & Dave, I have the same account & pay the same as Shoe. But, I don't have success lately in sending or getting messages from most folks. It's pretty random. I was able to get an email from Branka but not from Rootdoctor. Just wanted to get this off my chest...

It sounds like Hotmail needs to be hammered with complaints from its paying customers. This is ridiculous.
