Server is moving (again)

Well, I've had some failures in life, and then I've had some spectacular failures. The DG membership has gotten to watch the latter in real-time this past week as the "move to a new server" idea crashed and burned.

So, we're back on our original server and I expect things will be back to the way they were a week ago. Back to the drawing board!

Oh, Dave. I am sorry for feeling of failure. It is not your fault, You work hard at this thing...you know ...everything is a learning experience. You have had so many steps forward...We all thank you for your knowledge. and Patience...hehehe ...You are a good leader...along with your helpers........remember Smile. and take a deep breathe.

dave, you never know if you don't try. so sorry it didn't work like you planned, but always grateful for being able to push that little button and wind up here.

Wondering if that is why I got this error message a while ago??

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111) in /www/garden/inc/common/db_mysql.inc on line 53
Database error: MySQL Connect error: Cannot use database
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted.

It took several attempts for me to get on here, but thought you might want to see this error message now.

Good luck Dave
We're with you no matter where you go or what server you decide to use :)

Dave, we're supporting you all the way!

Yep, I definitely don't feel like a failure! :) The fact is, the idea was a failure, and a spectacular one at that.

I have all kinds of ideas, some are good, some are bad, and some are terrible. :-)

lol :)

Dave, The only people that don't make mistakes or have failures are the people that don't do anything. I would rather take three steps forward with an occassional one step back - than to just march in place all the time. Nat

Amen, Nat!

Dave, if it's any consolation, another site I was using to help fill in some details of the PDB rose entries is also experiencing SQL woes - twice in as many days, their search function (on which their entire site depends) has come to an abrupt and crashing halt.

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Dave, I really appreciate all the time and energy you put into making this the best plant site on the internet.

Question: Does that mean the Iris Database will be back the way it was before too? Where we were able to access it (by a link inside a box on the right) from the main "Welcome to the Plants Database" page?
I hope, I hope.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well Dave, you tried something new. Who can blame a guy for trying? I have no doubt you will keep trying. ;)

Margiempv, the Iris (and other) databases will be back, in another form, but the original link still works for you.

Honestly, those databases are the very last thing on my mind right now. I hope that the rest of this week will be spent getting the server situation completely under control, and then I can turn back to the fun stuff, like programming.

If you never try anything new, you get behind. Ok by me that you did try. Sorry it didn't work out.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

If at first you dont succeed, then try and try again. Thanks for trying to make a great thing better. I never did have a problem with the new server, not sure why, but then I don't go in all the forums that I read were having problems.

BTW, My uncle wrote in my yearbook (in 6th grade) :) If at first you don't succeed, then to heck with it! I never did take his advice. LOL

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

It's thru our mistakes and failures that we achieve more knowledge, and successs follows that. Keep on truckin' as we said in the 70's.

Hey, we're here for the long haul - You're too good to settle for so-so, and we know things will be better again. We'll stick around. :)

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Try again.
