Three years ago I stopped drinking coffee and coke because it gave me severe migraine. Now I only ever drink tea and it has never bothered me despite having caffeine in it. Today for the first time in a long time I had 2 cups instead of one (I drink it quite strong) and half an huor later I have the most crippling headache!! :(( I can only think it is the tea as I havent had anything else. Does anyone else get migraine from drinking tea?
Oh my head!!! :((
You must be really sensitive to caffine! Often it is one of the very things used to treat miagraines. I pray GOD relieves you of both this headaches and the sensitivity of your system to caffine or whatever it is in tea, coffee, etc. that it reacts to so violently.
leaflady I am going crazy. Even strong painkillers are giving me no relief :((
eeww psilo would drinking water help? Im wondering if it would help flush it out of your system faster, or cranberry joice. I know its recommended to drink cranberry juice for a urinary tract infection but dont know if it would work to help anything else. You better start drinking decaffinated, I get periodic mini migraines for whatever reason they decide to bother me and only several motrin will help ease them.
Psilo, could it be the tannins in the tea and coffee that causes your headaches? Are you able to drink red wine, or does it give you a headache?
I have had bad migraine headaches too but mine are caused by an old head injury where my nerves were damaged in my forehead. Have you had anything like that to happen? JUst a suggestion. Robbie
Psilo, are you feeling any better tonight? I feel so sorry for you. I've had migraine headaches since adolesence and so do both of our daughters and one of our sons and some of the grandchildren. For we women it seems to be both allergy and hormone related and gets better with age. Only time will tell how it will go with the guys in the family. My mother had them as long as any of the older children can remember so they must have started in her early twenties or before. Cheeses and chocolate seemed to be her big triggers. For years she and I both took Caffergot, a caffine and ergotomine mixture you can take orally. Often mine required Demeral and Visteril shots to get relief. Then it was discovered that the ergotimine in the caffergot was causing pregnant women to miscarry so I stopped taking it. I was having the headaches 2-6 times a week so I was getting a lot of ergotimine in my system. The other side effects were kind of unpleasant too. My doctor started me on 2 AlkaSeltzer tablets in water as hot as I could stand it and 2 Excedrine tablets. After about 35 years or so I suddenly could not stomach that AlkaSeltzer one more time. I read the label and discovered that AlkaSeltzer tablets are basically acetaminophen(Tylenol)and bicarbonate sodium. Now I take the Excedrin and Acetaminophen tablets when I have headaches or for nearly any pain because it works so well for it all.
HI Leaflady I am feeling much better thankyou. Although the headache has gone it leaves my head feeling wooly and I have trouble with my balance (Migraine without the headache the specialist says) My migraine started when I contracted meningitus when I was 18 though occassionally it disappears for a time. A few years though it came on very bad over several weeks. Mine isnt the usual type of vomitting migraine. It is just major pain 24/7 .I used to go to the doctor when it got too bad and migralieve helped. The second time it happened dh told me to try not drinking coffee. The headaches had been nonstop for days so I agreed. Within 24 hours the headaches had gone. After 3 weeks of not having a headache i drank coffee and within half an hour had a splitting headache. The same happens with coke, red wine, whiskey and sometimes dark chocolate. It looks like it may also be triggered by tea too :((
My headaches got worse with my latest bout of depression but I also suffer from fybromialgia which is known to make you susceptible to migraine too.
Bless your heart, psilo. I am so sorry for those headaches. I will say a prayer for you. Stay away from the coffee and all those triggers of your headaches. Take care, Robbie
I feel for you, Since I was a young girl, I have had the vomiting migraines, about every 6 weeks. My sister also has them, but not as often.. We inherited them from out maternal grandmother..Seems to have skipped our Mama, lucky her, LOL..
Always after 2 days of it, off to the ER for pain and nausea shots.. Migraines are awful..

Psilo, I have fibro too. The doctor who finally gave me the diagnosis about 6 years ago said I have had it since I was about 5. My oldest daughter and her daughter both showed symptoms by then too. I'm sure my father had it badly. He had terrible headaches but not the vomiting/diarrhea like my mother and I had. I've also had what is called optical migraines. My eyes hurt terribly, are sensitive to light, feel as tho they are made of halfset jell-o and are ready to run down my face at any moment. Our youngest daughter is also very sensitive to caffine. Sometimes that is the only thing that will get me up and going. Other times it doesn't do anything for me at all. That's when I know the fibro is taking a bad turn and I'm in for a few days of near bedfastness.
I sure wish I could tell you something that would really be a help to you. But all I can offer is compassion and prayers. The rest is up to GOD.
