Ooooooo, Dahlias...

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

Well, I just got the catalog from Blumengarten (aka-Lenjo) and it's purty y'all. Here's what I'm getting:

Magically Dun (a white decorative with lavender edging)
Watercolors (a pink and lilac decorative)
Skywalker (a red/orange shredded looking ball)

If Lenjo sees this maybe she can load some pics as I couldn't find any on the web, but trust me, they're all gorgeous. :)

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

I got mine too, they sure are pretty. Really, you are stopping at just 3?

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

I only have 1/4 acre Mary, and so much more to plant than I have beds prepared for! I'm getting 3 Magically Dun, 2 Watercolors and 1 Skywalker. So really I'm getting 6, just only 3 colors. Which ones do YOU want? :)

hi ecobioangie, i just bought my 1st dahlias. they are called autumn fairy. do you know much about them? i live in tucson, az. can i put them in lage pots? i don't have any yard. just a brick patio. with 1/2 coverd. i liked the picture, they look so pretty. can you give me any hints. thanks

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

Hey binky, you'll love dahlias. The big ones need to be staked, but this little guy shouldn't. Oh, and as far as the potting goes, I found these pics on google of your exact dahlia. So I'd say most definitely yes! :)

Here's another. I think these are probably 10-12" pots.

Which ones do I want? Well, all of them of course! But deciding what to actually buy is another problem. I'll be developing a good sized area that is presently a lasagna bed under snow, not frozen but probably there isn't much decomposition happening right now, so I may have a lot of work to do before I can plant the shrubs and other things that are waiting in pots. The dahlias might have to wait another year.

ecobioangia, thanks for your info. and i love the looks of that dahlias with my name. i am going to look it up.we are having some frost this week so won't plant mine till later. maybe end of feb. i am so happy you can put them in pots. like i said i have no yard.so anything i have has to go in pots.going to keep mine in the garage for now. that should be ok you thing? i may have to buy a lot more pots! lol by the way, how can i get a "blumengarten" catalog? do they have a web site?

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

No, no website. Email Lenjo and she can send you a catalog. :)

They should be fine in the garage as long as you don't let them get too dry and shrively. But don't keep them 'wet' either, just keep an eye on them and if they need it spritz them.

Well if you don't like cold then you're in the right place. I'll take the trees and grass over the desert any day. It is cold here today though. brrrr.

There are some beautiful Dahlia's on the Old House Gardens website. I ordered two, and they will be my first ( I wanted them all! )...I'm excited, but like some of you - I too only have limited space. I see so much I want, and can't resist, then I have to figure out where to put it! I will probably end up with a very full, diverse garden :) This is actually my first garden too...I put it in last Fall, so I can't wait to see see the plants bloom & take shape.
