Poppys, schedules and rico

Now I don’t admit to a lot of fear. Mistrust, if this is classified as fear then I guess that I have plenty. What does this have to do with anything?
Well with homeland security and patriot acts responding to peoples fears, I have become a little nervous about the the system's willingness to discern intent from the letter of the law.
I have grown papaver somniferum for years, I love these flowers. Yes I am aware that every part of the plant except denatured seed is on the federal schedule two list.
The Rico laws allow confiscation of property, without conviction of a crime. If you are charged with a crime, law enforcement can confiscate homes cars et cetera. Happens to meth labs around here all the time. The people that ran the illegal meth operations were not always the property owner. Maybe I seem paranoid but I have decided to stop growing papaver somniferum because I do not trust the system to judge by intent. Does anyone feel the same way?

I would not be willing to risk my property or my freedom for the sake of a flower no matter how beautiful. As for the Rico Laws....Nope can't get into that type of political discussion here at DG.

Those kinds of poppies have naturalized in the field up behind my house. They were growing there when we built here. It's a shame that something so beautiful has to have a dark side.

DW had one for a summer but it didn't come back. Since then I've talked to cops about it and they claim they'd never bust anyone obviously growing them just for the flowers. If they find razor sliced seed pods, you're going to jail.

That is what I mean Frankay by discernment between the intent and the letter of the law. Obviously the officers that you talked to have a sensible approach. I am talking about authorities with an axe to grind or another agenda, who could use the letter of the law against a person. Property seizure through the Rico law process is not dependent on conviction of a crime. Property can be seized and not returned until judicial decision. I realize this is a little farside, but I have thought about it for a long time and decided that the poppy's were not worth it.

My late Mother in law, who was Slavic, grew her own poppies for Poppy Seed Cakes and stuff. She was inspected by federal agents and given a certificate to grow them. Jo

dough448, you're right, they are not worth jail. Lets say your dad was on Chemo after cancer surgeury. You are growing 2 pot plants and trimming regularly so dad can smoke it and not get nauseaus brushing his teeth, nevermind eating. (I've been there, dad would never do any "illegal" drugs. He died in misery) Should you be BUSTED? I've never heard of it. The media would eat the prosecutors for breakfast. Frank

I think that people are going to be willing to give up a lot of freedoms in the name of homeland security and those who fight such things will be considered bad Americans. There will be a lot of peer pressure. Call me a wacko, but I think it is all leading to the 666 stuff in the Bible.

As for poppies and Rico, "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely".
