My busy Grandma

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

I threw her 100th birthday party a while back. During the party, she rarely sat down except for photo "ops" with the great grandkids and to get on the floor and pass out cookies. Two days later she hopped on an airplane (alone of course) and flew to Costa Rica where she had lived for 15 years and still goes back in the winter to keep on enjoying herself.

Thought I'd share some photos :)

And I guess (LOL) she is slowing down a bit, cuz her 99th last year at my Uncle's house in Costa Rica she was wearing a hula skirt :)

Great photos! She's an inspiration to us all - I intend to be that active at 100, too! BTW, folks, that handsome guy in the "passing out cookies" photo is Dea's DH - also a gardener extraordinaire!!

Ellen (Dea's DS in Tennessee)

What a BEAUTIFUL lady!

Thanks vic!

LOL Sis - when I looked at the cookie pic I really laughed. You know what a social butterfly DH is ;) Stayed out on the tractor during most of the party - the man creates gardens on that thing like Monet used a brush :) But when it comes to me, kiddies and older folks he's in his realm :)

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

What great photos ! Grandma must be an inspiration to your whole family ! She is obviously 100 years young !

WOW she looks marvelous. Happy Birthday!! I agree, she's quite an inspiration.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Dea great pictures. She sure don't look like she is a 100. My DH's grandmother(granny) was 101 in November. She is not as actvie as your grandmother. She did get around pretty good on her own until she was 99. Theres a thread on here someplace of her 100th bd party. Don't think we will see to many of those.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow! What a treasure she is! I'd like to meet her someday, pick her brain, tell a few jokes. You've got a Grandma of Gold there I'm sure!

Hmm...I didn't know eanders2 and Dea were related! And they claim each other, too! Cool! And with all these Roundups planned everywhere I hope ya'll take time to go! (And bring Granny!)

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Wow!! Just look at her - I hope I can be that agile - down on her knees!! She is an inspiration and a lovely lady to boot.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Wonder if she'd agree to tent with me and Michael (DH) at the Mid-Atlantic RU @ Candee's place?

She's a gamer and I'm gonna ask! I'm bettin' she says yes if it's just for Saturday.

Funniest thing was that there were several folks at the party from NYC (transplanted now from former Costa Rica). She stood for 20 minutes and did a video all in espanol to send to all the neighborhood folks there. Then she told everyone that I would live to be more than 100+ since I had her "genes". I said, "Grandmother, I bought these at Wal-Mart" She howled!

Almost scary to think about living on this earth to be over 100 - but adventuresome ;) !!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow, what a lady ~ I hope to be so active then, too. Actually, I'm not as active as her now, LOL!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

To live to be 100 is a grand thing but to be 100 and still be able to enjoy life with pizazz is special indeed. It is great to see someone so active and alive at that age!

What an INSPIRATION!!!

(and Lucky You to get her genes)

Crossville, TN

I want to be just like her when I get old (as if 69 is not well on the way!) I don't think she would GIVE you her Jeans...she's too busy traveling around in them! LOL Jo

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Dea that is just awesome! She sounds like a neat lady. I can only hope to have half that much spunk!!

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Dea, lucky you to have a grandmother aged 100. What a blessing for all. And it looks like you take such good care of her or is it the other way round. Joann

How inspiring to see a lady who looks a lot younger than her advanced age. She is a treasure. Let me be the first to wish her a happy 101st! I hope to live a long active life. I have an aunt in her 90's so maybe some of those long life genes are in my family too.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Dea, She does not look 100! I can't even get on my knees and I'm less than half her age.. Boy is she enjoying life or what? God really blessed her. I hope you have your genes.... Is she from the Hoosier State? I noticed the Indiana shirt on her in Costa Rica. Kathy :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Yes, Indiana is my home. I just got transplanted way out East here :)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I hope you have her genes, is what I meant to say. Well, darn it Dea, we were almost neighbors. Where abouts in Indiana? I am a stone's throw from Corydon. :) Kathy

P.S. I'm a transplant also....From New England, land of snow, snow, snow and more snow. Good ole MA.

Allen County, way up near Ft. Wayne. :)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, that's almost a whole state away. :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

My mom (Lotusblossom) and aunt Bonnie (Whiterose) grew up in Ft. Wayne, among other places.

Ask them if they ever heard of Hillcrest School? Way out on Tillman Road. What a coincidence :)
