Ebay won't sell animals. Members can post them, but one complaint to ebay gets that auction pulled. Where is this auction?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Are you objecting because they are Dogs?

I just don't get what the problem is.....

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

I guess I don't get it either. I'd be delighted to know that someone bought this poochie at auction and gave it a good home.

I guess some people feel life at the pound is a better life than being auctioned to someone who pays big bucks for the cutie....

There is a big auction coming up next month in Missouri for potential breeding stock for puppy mills. There are a group of us breeders and 'dog people' that are trying to make the public aware of where the pet shop dogs are coming from, and the conditions that they live in before that cute puppy shows up in the pet shop. There are several breed rescue groups, private breeders, and dog lovers that are getting involved to rescue what they can, and to make the breeders of these dogs that will be auctioned aware of where those they have bred may end up. No dog should have to lead a life like that.

I agree puppy mills should be stopped but is trying to close down an auction gunna do it?
there are a heck of a lot of backyard breeders that should be stopped too....
there will just be another one......

I think the way to go is to get legislation that states that any puppy mill ,pet shop bought dog, has to be spayed or nuetered at 6-9 months .People are always going to go to pet shops for puppies, but if they realize the cutie can't be breed so they can "get rich" breeding a dog that is not show quality they might be more likley to go to a reputable breeder......

2 of our dogs are rescues that somebody else paid big bucks for. They bought cute pure-bred puppies, then found out thier new pets weren't right for thier "Lifestyle", and dumped them at shelters.Have you all seen the add for this auction? "330 Dogs!! 2 Days!!" Breed specific shelters hang on to some dogs for years trying to find them a home. Local humane societies don't have the room or the budget. They keep the ones that they think might move in a week and kill the rest. Bangor humane has trouble keeping workers once they find out most of thier job is disposing of cats. Frank

Our Black Lab went missing 2 weeks before Christmas. He was 1 1/2 yrs old, born here at the farm. I heard some commotion at 5 a.m. and when I went to look, my other two dogs came and Rascal did not. We looked all over for him, didn't find a dog hit on the side of the ride. Asked the dog officer and found out that dogs have been getting stolen in our county recently and are being sold at auction; I had never even heard of this. It seems that Black Labs are in high demand. I think it must have been someone that knows of us because we live on a dead end road way out in the country and no one comes up this road unless they live on it. There are 5 mobile homes beyond our house and that's it.

The kids have been upset about losing their "puppy dog" and there is nothing we can do about it.

So I hope these people that are stealing dogs and cats and selling them at auction are happy with themselves and I pray that one of the dogs will bite them DARN good in a pretty good place!!!

It's tough when your hands are tied and you've tried everything and there is nothing else you can do to find a missing pet.

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

here alot of dogs go missing, and are used for 'training' fighting dogs.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

That's just awful. :( We don't let any of our animals outside, dogs or cats -- people poison them, steal them, chase and abuse them. It's so sad.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

We can get into a heated argument here on PETA issues vegetarian beliefs, and I don't think this is the place.

The Horse issue makes me think maybe ,if I can dig up a link, maybe I will try to adopt one,I take the medicine that they were used for.
One of my dogs was gotten thru a rescue league...worst dog I've ever had,but I still believe in rescue leagues

I do believe in auctions for live animals ,horses ,poultry,cattle.......
Some end up at meat markets, some find loving homes
As for the dog auction, would the preference be euthanasia?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Maybe one of you could start a MyZF forum at http://myzf.com for those who would like to talk about/debate animal issues like this. Like you said, people can get into a heated argument about these issues.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I think GW meant to say we don't let our animals out unsupervised. Our dogs do go outside. LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, yeah, that's what I meant! They're too big to litter train, LOL.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

My preference would be for our pets to stop being stolen!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

My preference would be for our pets to stop being stolen! It's just another case of someone taking/touching something that doesn't belong to them. I wouldn't intentionally steal a pencil that belonged to someone else and I find it appalling that people think they can trapes through this world and take whatever they'd like. I wish God would send lightening bolts directly to these people.!

Bitty, when you adopt any animal that might be killed if you don't. And you love that creature and promise it a good home for the rest of it's life. Never apologize for what you believe in. Doing the right thing will never be wrong. Ever heard of "Best Friends" rescue? They have horses too.

If people only knew what we know.
And to realize we care more than anyone thinks.
I am only trying to save people from a lot of grief.
This is why we have problems in our rescue sites, yes I do belong to one and were going broke trying to save these little kids from a fate of sorrow. Seems as though we only bat our heads up againgst a wall as people will not listen .This is why so many of us want to give up but, can't for the love of an animals life. Be it any animal

I think that the issue here is not that the dogs are being sold at auction per se, but that their fate is to become puppy-making machines under inhumane conditions.

My parents used to have a dog who they later suspected of being a puppy mill dog. She was a pure-bred Lhasa apso, but was not show quality and was always afraid of the dark and loud noises. She was a good dog and lived for something like 16 years, but she repeatedly would have back problems.

Kelli:
You hit the nail right on the head.
So you know what we are trying desperately to stop.
It doesn't matter if their show or pet quality. They don't deserve the life they could be getting. To be bred to death..
Please know many of us are sending money to buy some of these kids and turn them over to rescue and put up for adoption to good homes.
Thanks Kelli, people like you make this job a little easier
knowing people do care.

I have to get on it this . Our black lab was taken also, recently a place in Ky was busted for abuse to animals and it was stolen animals. My son went to see but our lab was not there. But the good news was lots of people got there pets back. Bitty on the horses we have been adopting horses from Canada for the last 2 years. We use our farm as a pick up spot for people that have adopted them. To come pick them up. I may not agree with the program but I can not stand the thought of a horse going to dog food. We have a load of 25 mares coming in Sunday. 10 stay here and the other 15 go on to VA.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, Peggy, I'm so sorry to hear your doggie was taken, too! :( How many horses do you guys own, permanently, I mean?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Peggy, What a sweet person you are, I knew you were of kind heart when I met you ;) I had not heard of any specific place that was busted. Wish I had known, might be our Rascal was amongst them. When did you lose your black lab? Mine went missing 2 weeks before Christmas. He was a good dog, good with the kids and the kids loved him. Of course we are a few hours apart, but who knows where he went to. I heard a car out here at 5 a.m. and my dogs were barking drastically. The strange thing is we live on a dead end road. It was too dark to see anything, just hear. (out in the country that happens, right?) Kathy :(

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Kim we have 7 , 2 horse farm rejects, 1 we are breeding,( race horse in the making, Ky Derby here we come) lol the other 4 are from the adoption program.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Kathy I am sorry you where posting the same time I was I guess. Chaos was taken back in the summer. The place was in Grant Co. you might want to check it out. It's along way from us to but 1 person from here found her dog and another in Mason Co found hers.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Do you know what the county seat is in Grant County? Is it closer to me? And how can I tell my dog after so much time.....:( Maybe he will remember his name...I would assume it's not still open if they busted it. I will have to mention this to DH. Thanks for the info Peggy :)
