Surprise Surprise,I turned my plants around 180*, and what did I see? Pink frosty buds looking back at me!
Looks like a bloom or two,in a day or two!
Way to go.... should brighten winter days for you. Ahhh, the smell. Keep us posted when they are open.
lucky you ---If I had a bud, I think I would hound it to death waiting :)saw your deck pond on the pond forum-----looks very VERY tropical.----I know its the brug forum, but umm? If I knew how to link it here I would. *I dont anyone here would mind?* hint hint?
Great to see that some of us can have blooms in the dead of winter. Don't have a chance here, but Kansas isn't that far away. I need a pair of ruby slippers and maybe I could make something happen. LOL!
watch out for them flyin momkeys :S---those should have been pg 13, they still creep me out.
Love that passiflora. What one is that?
You know what, I'm probably un-American...I don't think I have ever watched the Wizard of Oz all the way through.
Tman,I am gonna have to replace my steps,I have them worn down looking for more buds!Yours sure looks great, was this side facing more light?
Plays, links are easy,go to the thread you want to Hyper, left click the adrress, right click and copy,go to the reply you want it in,and right click and paste it.

Brugie,thats Lady Lavender,ain't she a beauty!!!
Plays yep those flyin monkeys were pretty freaky alright.
Don't feel bad Brugie I could never stay awake to see it all the way through myself!
Hey root,My sunroom is so packed,I only get around about once a month to turn these big containers around,I have them planted in those big clear square boxes you put and store blankets and stuff, and there in peatmoss, yep only in peatmoss, but I feed them with a little bit of 20-20-20 of fertilzer water, just so they get a little bit of some kind of nourishment.
Congrats Tropicman Enjoy your blooms. Waiting on Fantasma, Hawaiian Dbl White and a very special one to bloom very soon.
Great yard, you live up to your name!
I feel so lucky, my favorite white one has been blooming since the middle of summer! I was planning to cut it back when I brought it inside, but can't bring myself to cut off buds, and it had lots. It's scraping the ceiling in the basement, but has 15 blooms open right now, and more buds coming. It had 6 open on New Year's Day, and I think that a couple of the blooms open now are still some of those. They look kind of ratty (like old paper), but are still hanging on.
Tman I am in awe here, Awesome tropical pond and all the plants in and outside of it! Great job!!!
Thanks Brug addict.
Hi Ronna,I know what you mean,I had one bloom a couple weeks back that lasted about a week, before it said goodbye!
It looks beautiful! What I actually meant was that I think that a couple of the blooms that are open now are still the ones from New Year's. The blooms last about a week during the summer, but they last longer on this one during the winter. When it bloomed last winter for the first time, the first bloom lasted three weeks. A bloom opened up tonight, I'll keep an eye on it and see how long it lasts.
Congratulations! To have flowers at this time of the year brightens up the days.
Thanks, and it smells pretty darn good too!!!
Wish I had blooms to smell right now. Kansas is certainly showing us how it is done. You and Root both with bloomers. Wow, how lucky can you get to have blooms in January. Looks great!! Yes, that Passie is gorgeous. I have some seeds that have sprouted that Clare sent me. Can't wait to see them bloom in a couple of years.
Tropicman, Your sunroom is outstanding. Your plants look so healthy and happy. The Passiflora is gorgeous. I have a couple in my small GH that bloom sporadically. I have still one bloom left on my PB brug. It had y'd to three branches. I cut the one that had finished blooming down to 6" from the Y, hope that was right thing to do. Will cut the other two back soon.
The pool picture isn't current is it. You do have winter weather there sometimes don't you. My pool just has a melted circle aroung the cattle trough heater. Donna
Eeeeewwwwwwww!!!! That just isn't pretty to me at all. I really hate cold and only like the snow if I'm inside and never have to get out in it. 10 inches of snow? Ugh! How long was it there?
BTW.....beautiful bloom above!
It is amazing how your plants do not mind being pulled up twice every year and replanted inside then outside. I guess it must be like bonsai. The roots must all be compact high quality ones and grow nice new feeder roots close to the trunk.
I think I am gonna move to Wichita! :)
Tropicman- Your snow picture is the epitome of winter!

What a fantastic yard you have. You should post some more pictures of your tropical paradise.
Brinda,it only lasted 4 or 5 days, warmed up to 50 again shortly there after, you know don't like the weather wait 5 minutes it will change!!LOL! Your seeds I sent back in the same envelope, well the PO,sent it back to me,and the stamps were on the new address side!!So had to take back to PO Pay again, all because I didn't mark out the other side!!!
Badseed!!!Now who's living dangerously on the edge!!!LOL!
Kell,I'm surprised too,but tropicals are tuff plants, look at these roots from bird of paradise, after I washed off the dirt to divide them this year, and they both bloomed after I brought them for the winter.
Datdog,I will post some more!
Just great pics!! And yes, great roots!! LOL
Your birdie is a doll. Does she get to fly free in your sunroom?
Has Root made it to your paradise yet?
Wow, what some great pictures. Beautiful.
Planning a trip in mid summer Kell,I gotta see this, looks like my kind of garden!!!
I did not know about the BOP liking cramped roots, good info!
Great pics,keep them coming!
Sleet here now,50º weds.
Thanks Kell and Ahelms,
no root said he'd come next fall.
A neighbors son came by and said he was into tropicals and had a huge 20x40 greenhouse,I said back you truck up and grab a shovel, must have gave him a dozen banana plants over 10ft tall, several brugs 10 ft tall and wide, over a 100 different cannas, and all other kinds of plants I was tired of hauling in and out of the greenhouse.
Drove out later to his place, yep I just about filled his greenhouse up,boy was he a happy camper!!!
Yes I have 2 more parrots besides tango,a green nanday, and a white goffin cockatoo, yep they love to fly around in the sunroom.Yes they tease me,with catch me if you can!!!
