I did a Google search, and it looks like Gauf can be a first name and Rioun can be a last name but there were no hits on Gauf Rioun.

Hey yall! Thanks for all the help and sorry to leave yall dangling..I was busy yesterday and didn't have time to post or take the picture of the the picture.
pslio, the picture is not one I've painted. It is one I found that my mom had. It is not in the best shape, but I know it is old just by the picture frame.

I've always been interested in who the artist was...I couldn't make out the signature at all and thought I'd post it here and maybe someone who was into art could help. I used to think it was just a print, but now I am thinking it is an actual painting.

Lisa, if you contact an art museum somebody there might recognize the name and maybe be able to tell you if the painting is worth any money. I like it, it is nice and peaceful.

Lisa take a look here - see if you recognize anything....

And don't forget to take a peek behind the painting. Pull the backing off and see what's back there. Often-times people would mat the back with newspapers, thereby giving you a date to work with.

It looks like the F is a capital letter for a last name. Could the first name be George, abbreviated Geo.?

Here is a copy I made a little more contrasty:

Is the picture of a swamp? Do you think it is a local artist, maybe? Does your mom have any idea about it?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

The underlined part at the end could be the surname. To me it looks like Ricca.
