eBay sellers.....?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Would it be possible or ethical to have a list somewhere of our Subscribed Members who are eBay sellers and their eBay names? I would really love it =)

I like this idea ... maybe it could be part of the address exchange list thingy ....

This is a good idea, if possible.

Loysville, PA(Zone 6a)

I would really love to have something like that since I am always leary to order anything from ebay. I would feel better if I knew it was a DG subscriber.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

E X A C T L Y ! Willit (love ur nick) ;-P

We already have the ability to do this, actually! All you have to do is go to your preferences page and add your ebay address for your homepage. Then, when folks look at your member page, they will see the link.

Anything beyond that would potentially start a slippery slope of commercial stuff on DG, which we've had to fight aggressively in the past, unfortunately.

I understand, that is what I was worried about. A real " Sticky-Wickett" I guess .

So how do we do this now ? Say I want to buy from 'Mojo' on ebay and need to know who that is , I come to DG and search for a 'Mojo'??? that wouldn't help would it?

So I need to search all possible names I know on DG to see if they posted for an eBay ID ?

Oh well, it almost was a good idea =)

Thanks Dave,

I guess an ebay seller could use their DG name. That would do it. And while they're on DG, they could post a link to their DG member page. Then everyone would possibly benefit..the DG member/ebay seller, the potential customer, and perhaps more people would be informed of the Famous DavesGarden, eh?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

That's what I do - seen me here, ya know where to find me there.

It would be neat to know who all sells there, but I know Dave is very careful of member privacy.

Subscribers who who participate in the DG Address Exchange at http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/ could always add their eBay member ID's to the Interests section. Or someone could always start a thread for those who'd like to post their eBay ID's; we've done that in the past with MSN and other chat program users. If it was posted in the Parking Lot, only DG subscribers could see the thread.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

we should have a special email 'handshake'!! like....put **%^ or something at the end of a description or something on the selling site. that way only us would know and we'd trust them! just a thought.

Not everyone would be able to use their DG member name as the same Ebay name (I can't) and not all of us want to use the full facilities of the address exchange either.

How about an individual member setting up an ebay and/or other commercial database of members who are purveyors of wonderful things? If there is enough interest that is.

Adding a field to the address exchange is actually a good idea. How about I do that?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

That might work - it's not necessary to divulge more info than you want to within the address exchange, so if you just wanna let folks know you sell on eBay, you could bypass the personal stuff, and just include that info, right?

Yes, all that is required is your name, so you don't have to give out the address and other information unless you want to.

dave

Thanks for that bit of info, I was thinking I'd have to put everything down! *G*

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

(Call me blind...I can't find where the DG Address is listed on the menu. I checked under Extras. Other than using the above link GW gave how do I get there?)

It's not in the menu... I'll add it to the "Extras" page - look for it in a couple minutes!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Thanks Dave

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

So I really wasn't going bonkers!
Dave saves the day. Again. (I'm really NOT whacko folks!)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Dave, I see where the place is for Ebay ID, but how do I add it on my page in Extras? Kathy

Kathy,

Click on "Preferences" in the menu, then click on "Homepage".

Add your ebay link on your homepage or favorite webpage and it'll then show up whenever someone looks at your member page.

Dave

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Thanks Dave. :)

Franklin, LA(Zone 9b)

or.. we could start a thread in the general discussion forum (if that would be acceptable to you, dave?) called "ebay users" or something like that, and everyone here who sells things on ebay, could post their information there, if they wanted ...

Another option, which we've done on the Power Sellers boards, is to put something in our auctions to let others know they could by from fellow power sellers.

You could gome up with a universal code, like DG!

Then all you have to do is search Ebay for DG!, and check the "Search Descriptions" box. Everyone that has it in their auction would show up in the search. It would have to be unique enough to filter out any adds that aren't from DG.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Okay, I think I did what was outlined, but when I click on those links in my memberpage, they take me no where. What did I do wrong?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I think something other than DG will need to be in the auction titles. Look at what searching just the titles for DG brings up: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=DG

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

I checked that too. Just plain "Daves Garden" would work though.

People would just have to remember to check the "Search Descriptions" box.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It's too bad eBay doesn't have a way for users to search the About Me pages of members for certain text.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

MollyMc, you didn't put the
http://
in front of the urls in your links.

Cheri'

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I thought putting the www. address in would do the trick. I just now put in the http:// and it worked!!! hooray, thanks Cheri'

I DID IT!
I added my eBay ID to my homepage. I was not aware of this feature until it was pointed out in this furum, this thread. This is a good way to let DG members who the eBay sellers' ID.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

mainfrog, sorry to rain on you, I went and clicked on it and it didn't take me anywhere. Check out Sundry's notes above my last comment. That was very helpful.

How are all you ebaY sellers doing with their recent increase in rates? Or, does it matter?

I have sold on ebaY in the past but nothing for nearly a year now. (Too little time lately.) I sold mostly books, plus a few collector plates for a friend. I think my biggest sale was $75 for a 50˘ paperback karate book, but the average was probably not more than $10.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Thanks "eyes"
For now I put a folder on my 'desktop' for ID's .
Until I come up with something better this works for me =)

darius: in answer to your question on how are we eBay sellers doing with the fee increases, gives me a chance to let off some steam.
I have sold collectible postcards and documents for four years on eBay. This latest fee increase is the last straw. Surely they could have been satisfied with the few billion dollars that they are worth, yes that's BILLION. The eBay fees, PayPal fees, and auction management program fees make it impossible to make a profit selling $3.00 or $4.00 items.
It sure keeps me busy as I have a feedback of over 1,500 positives with no neutrals, or negatives, but busy is all, no profits.
I have a dealers site that is much less expensive with over 1,200 items there and I intend to place almost all my ads there in the future.
Bill

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

I know what you mean Bill. Our Ebay fees last year were just over $7,000.00

This rate increase won't affect us much, as we primarily do Dutch auctions, but giving them more without gaining any additional *cough*Service*cough*, drives me nuts.

We're using google ad words heavily this year in an effort to direct sales towards our web site.

While Ebay did help us get this off the ground, we hope to be free of them within 3 years.

Chris

It's a bit of a struggle here too, especially since eBay had to start charging VAT on fees for the UK.

Paypal fees are a little hard to swallow but it's one of the few ways you can attract more bids and it is so more convienient and better since they've lowered the amount of money you can withdraw to the bank with no extra charge. Maybe eBay thinks they've got us cornered?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

A note about links on your DG member page...You have to include the entire thing -- http: and on -- on URL's you list on your member page in order for them to link elsewhere. Otherwise, it creates a link that just points back your member page with the URL you typed tacked ontop the end of it. When that happens, it defaults to your member page again.

Dave -- could this be fixed?
