need your input

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi

I just was reminded that I have a talent not a lot of folks have - I am good at writing poems and I'd like to start a business doing Acrostic poems for special occasions - like babies and retirements and anniversaries and stuff.

Do you think there is a market for this? What would you pay for such a thing? (anything? at all?)

Just wanting some input...

thanks

Janiejoy, I have seen how people love those "meaning of your name" matted or framed things, like they often have in the malls.

So, if you did some nice Acrostic poems, had them ready to go with more popular names, custom on more unusual ones, I think they would be a big hit.

Good luck with your new venture!

What a delightful way to give the gift of thoughtfullness.
You could also create greeting cards in a frameable size with the Names/poem on the face and the inside left blank for personal notes rom the giver. Perhaps displaying a card in and out of a frame and try them out in one off the Scif stores or a local shop.

The SCIF store would be a great way to market them at first, and check with local bookstores and gift shops, too.

It sounds like a good idea to me, as long as you can find the right place to advertise.

I'd suggest you look online for some interesting and decorative (and readable!) fonts to use. There are many available for free. Then, it's a simple thing to put together an attractive art piece with your acrostics and other ideas.

Janiejoy,
I always write poems for newborn babies (or babies to be) when I attend a blessingway or baby shower for someone close to me. Some of my friends liked what I wrote so much that a few of them have asked me to write for them....At first it felt strange to accept money for it. But when someone really insists, I leave it up to them to decide what it's worth to them. I've been given anywhere from 10-20 dollars for my poems, which I handwrite on special watercolor blank cards that I get at a local shop.

This is the link to the SCIF stores page Dave has that tells you all about them better than I could.

They are a golden opportunity waiting to be mined.

I'll tell you what, as expensive as the fees are at eBay for listing, not to mention the fees charged by PayPal and other payment services, the SCIF stores are a real bargain, too.
