Member Stores / scifstores

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Has anyone else checked these out? A friend just "turned me onto them" and I like them. In fact I opened one myself. I never even knew they were there - sure I had seen the "Member Stores" link, but NEVER looked, and golly, I got some wonderful japanese morning glories there, and some blue silks and some Roman Candy!!! I was hooked!!

Laurrie, I have a new store there, too. When Dave first started them, I looked at all of the items in every store. Then I gradually forgot about them...

I wish there was some way to show new stores I haven't seen yet, or when new items are added to older stores. It would be easier for me to check them out.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

I've been wanting to open one too. But haven't done all the figuring yet. I guess I need to since I sure could use the extra money right about now.
Wonder if its hard to set up? Anyone know??

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Molly, it's easy to set up. Dave has it so all you do is fill in the blanks. I had a few problems but it turned out to be my browser, Safari.

Cool, I think I will give it a try later tonight. Guess in the mean time I need to get some pics taken huh?

I'm heading over there now to check out all the other stores.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi all, I opened one up there monday, a friend told me about them, course, I never had even looked at that link there, although I had seen it many times, but never looked. And yes, it was a dream to set up, no fees for listing, only 10% fee when you sell and it is billed I believe once per month and that is it! I have wasted money at other places with all the set up, and listing fees, not to mention the actual cost they keep when someone pays, this looks much easier and hey, we are already members here, so why not, of course, I haven't hardly added anything to mine yet, but have been making nice packets with photos for all my items, and when those are done, then I add them to the store. Too cool.

I agree also, it would be nice to have some kind of update or something when new items are added to those stores or a new store opens up, that way we could all run there and check them out!

I've started one...(last year). So far haven't opened to the public but if I ever get my ducks in a row I will.

Just not sure what I'd sell. Only thing out of the ordinary or original I really have to offer would be some stories, or CD's of my stories. Would like to offer more than that tho.

'Breezy, you're absolutely right! It's a great set up! Easy to use, affordable, and is ahead of its time.

I suggest ya'll try it out.

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

I bought from the store last year, and intend to look there first before going 'outside' the site. Very easy to shop; step by step.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Too funny!
I posted today on vines & climbers forum about the stores! Glad to hear that you decided to go through with setting one up. What is your store name, I will have to go back in & check yours out. I just cannot believe that they have been there all this time & I did not know it. Wonder what goodies I have missed out on? I am going to start checking in there every week. I am hooked too! LOL

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Welp, I have mine started. "Mollybee's Busy Beads And Such"
But I haven't added anything just yet. I figured I'd work on it more tomorrow, you know adding pics and etc.

It was a snap to set up too! Only had one error message and I e/mailed Dave and within minutes he had e/mailed me back telling me it was fixed!
I can't wait to get the whole thing up and running.
Good luck to all that are planning on getting one started.

Hey, Dave -- any way we could watch stores and receive notification when new items have been added to them?

GW and all who've bascially asked the same thing

The store owners/operators have an option to send out a newsletter if they like. That's one way you can be notified but you have to sign up to a store to register or we won't know how much interest there would be and we don't want to be accused of spamming!

You could also email the store and ask to be notified, I'm sure if enough people did that the stores would start operating the newsletter feature more.

The stores are a pinch to set up and Dave is a huge help and so fast to answer.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Baa, I HAD noticed the newsletter feature, just didn't see how I could use it until your post.

However, I wouldn't want a newsletter from all the stores, either.

About the stores "watching" feature, it does sound like a very fun feature, but ... well, we'll have to see. It would take quite a bit of programming to make it happen, and right now I'm up to my forehead in 2 big projects already going. (Newswire module and myZF forums code work).

Speaking of the newsletter: You don't even need to get your users to add themselves to your newsletter. Instead, if they register with your store, then you can mail them through the system. Under "Mass Users" is the option to send an email to all your users, simultaneously. It's a nice feature that some of the stores are using to profit.

Dave

Aha so that's what the mass users is for! Thanks Dave :)

Yep, and you can also use Mass Users to download a spreadsheet backup of all your users (complete with username, password, email address, and maybe some other information.) It's a useful tool.

Dave

Great stuff for the US stores Dave, it would be illegal for me to do that here as I'd have to sign up under the Data Protection Act and pay a fee (approx £35) to keep an electronic record like that. This means that all the general invoices and emails I receive for the business, I have to delete, by law.

Silly thing is, it's perfectly legal for me to keep a handwritten record! I may as well just pay the fee and be done with it.

Thanks for the additional info, guys. =)

I am getting ready to get ready, Dave was helpful and then I got caught up in other stuff at home. Mine will either be under my name or Whimseys and Notions, the one I have used at sales at home areas.
OhioBreezy-I sure know what you mean about the costs-had to pay $40 to share a table-got to sell a lot of stuff to clear that cost and materials.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Marcia, yes some fees seem to add up fast, that is what is so great about the scifstore area, no fees unless you actually have sales!!
My store is CheyOkota Seeds, I lost my computer on wednesday, the motherboard went out, or whatever you call it ha ha, so am on my uncles now, but at least I am back online!!!
