Songs for 50th Anniversary

southeast, NE

My parents will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in November. I would think it would be great to do a slide show for them. I don't want to spend a lot of money and pay somebody for a "flashy" show. Anyway, I want to come up with some kind of background music. One song that I think would be perfect is Alan Jackson's "Remember When". (I always cry when I hear that song.) Any other suggestions?

There are CDs available (library rentals) with music from their period. Maybe incorporate this along with the slide show presentation. Just a thought.

What about music from their era - the 40's ? Everyone loved the big bands and swing. (I still do.) Check Amazon.

"Young at Heart" - Frank Sinatra

We did a 50th for my folks with a slide show about 6 years ago. When this one came on, we were showing them in "the early years" - Not a dry eye in the house. It was really special.

"Sunday, Monday or Always", recorded by Bing Crosby is wonderful. That was our wedding march. :) http://www.kcmetro.cc.mo.us/pennvalley/biology/lewis/crosby/SundayMondayAlways.html

Hey...And it was recorded in 1943 -- gee, almost was perfect, anniversary-wise but for one year.

"Battle Hymn of Love" is good, too - had that at the wedding, too. http://www.songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Mattea_Kathy/A_Collection_Of_Hits/Battle_Hymn_Of_Love/127281.html

There is a song called 'True Companion' by Marc Cohn that is well-suited to folks that have been 'true companions' for 50 years.

I just looked that up, Weez - good lyrics. http://www.mainlineevents.com/dj/true.htm

Thanks, Gardenwife. It's much prettier when you can hear it. I love Marc Cohn's work and this is one of his best. That's a great site, GW.

There is the Anniversary Waltz, and the Ann Murrey song, 'Can I Have This Dance (for the rest of my life)', and several songs on the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack.. like 'As Time Goes By' done by Jimmy Durante. If you need copies of any of these songs, let me know. I've got a heck of a library, Jewel.

Thanks all for your suggestions. Turns out that my 16 year old niece is going to put this together for a computer class project. I may have to check to see if I can get the Sleepless sountrack.

One of my favorites is 'Wind Beneath My Wings'

play songs from the decade the couple was married. Alternatively, if their preferences tend toward a different style of music, choose songs according to their taste instead.

After reading this post, I heard "Remember When" by Allen Jackson. It's country, but has great words.
Just thought I'd mention it.

I sang "Wind Beneath my Wings" to Howie at our wedding. He still is, too. :)
