Dave-
Not sure if anyone else would use this but was wondering if it's possible to add a field in the Journal to link to an entry in the PDB? I find I'm copying hyperlink's alot in my Journal so I have quick access to plant info (height, sun, bloom times, etc). Just dawned on me that it would be nice to merely paste the hyperlink in a preset field area that then shows up as the hyperlink. Maybe what I'm doing is already that, but just thought it would be nice to have a specific field for a PDB link for the Journal entry. Brenda
Is this possible?
Good suggestion, Brenda. I don't know how high up the journals are on Dave's priority list, but this is something he and I have talked about from time to time (as well as a similar feature in the tradelist.) One thing to keep in mind is that it would force people to enter the plant's name in their journal exactly as it's spelled in the PDB in order to find a match. That's a big hurdle for a lot of us :)
Terry--Well I was thinking that would be a big downside, but if we had a field called "PDB Link" and the journal owner then needs to find the PDB entry that they want matched to it then simply copy and paste the link to that field. If that's possible then of course my next suggestion would be a button next to the PDB link that would pull up the PDB data and add to the bottom of the Journal display screen for that entry and display the information when look at a Category, Status, or To Do listing.
I guess what I'm really looking for is a way to sort my Journal by some additional data points like: 1) bloom time, 2) bloom color, 3) Light requirements etc.
What I'm in the midst of trying to answer is what I need to plant this Spring to fill in spots in specific beds with regards to bloom times or colors that are lacking in my gardens.
Maybe I'm asking for too much, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Does anyone know of a software program that can be bought to do something like this?? I bought one SW pkg but didn't really live up to it's box cover claims. Brenda

As you can see, it was prety elaborate, and that came with some pitfalls, but the upside was that it was probably the best-organized journal I've had. Just some ideas :o)
