Location, location, location

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It's the most important thing in real estate (just ask any realtor.) It's also pretty important info (if somewhat personal) you can add to your DG profile.

You don't have to divulge your latitude/longitude coordinates or even your city if you're a little skittish about sharing personal information, but please (pretty please!!!) add your state and USDA zones.

Don't know how to add it? Go here: http://davesgarden.com/locationprefs.php and you'll be able to select from the drop-down lists. Be sure to hit "submit" when you're done.

Not in the US or Canada? You can type in your city or regional location within the city "free form" field.

Why add this information? Well, for one thing, it helps people provide better advice when you post questions in the forums. (Especially if your question is along the lines of "Can I grow bananas outdoors here?" and we don't know if you live in Florida or Alaska.)

And you just never know when another DG member lives down the road from you. Roundups (get-togethers) are generally regional, and the volunteer coordinators try to make sure they drop an email note to anyone within a reasonable driving distance. If you don't want to participate in any get-togethers, you don't have to reply to their emails, but it's nice to be invited, and be able to decide whether or not to meet some other DG folks face-to-face.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Terry. Good advice.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Great thing to mention, Terry. Telling your zone and state doesn't endanger anyone - and Dave is extremely careful about not requiring personal information from anyone without their express permission. You're safe to let us know your USDA zone and in the end it helps you get your questions answered more quickly! :)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Here, Here! I totally agree. By the way, nix on the bananas, Terry. Too hard to keep the snow shoveled out around them in the winter, and the fruit turns brown in the cold. LOL!
