I noticed the clock here at Dave's is still in daylight savings time. Is that way those of you in the east still calculate your time. I am 4 hours behind that and we always change to Daylight Savings Time at the end of April and switch to standard time the end of October. What is the purpose of Daylight Savings Time anyway? My hubby is a farmer and he says it isn't for farmers as he would rather have the extra sense of daylight in the morning anyway.

Lenjo, I believe you have to go to your own preference page and make that adjustment. Mine did the same thing for a long time until I woke up and fixed it.
Molly

ah i was wondering about that

I've heard 2 versions. To help kids be at school in daylight or, to benefit farmers. (ever told a cow she would be milked an hour later) It never made sense to me.

Molly's got it. I was wondering the same thing until I read another post on another forum about chosing time preferences. Another thing to change when Daylight Savings comes around again. I can't even remember to change to clock in my truck!
How was your 'do' for the birthday girl? If you made any of the recipes posted you sure would have been a hit. I'm a holiday birthday too so understand what you were saying about her not really having a party all for herself when she was growing up. My DH married me on my birthday too - least he can't forget it.Hope you had a blast and the weatherman cooperated. D

NIce of you to ask Kidneyguy, yes, her party was very nice, we couldn't surprise her though but she was taken aback at how many people we had here. I did make the sausage meatballs that were posted on the recipes. I made all kinds of things and everybody ate quite well too.We did have a window of good weather too. Now tonight it is quite treacherous; very very icy.

When DST went into effect a few months ago, I heard on quite a few TV news programs that it was originated during war-times, when energy was a premium. The intent was that folks could save on their electric by not having so many lights on in the evenings, thus conserving electric.

Thought it was Benjamin Franklin's idea, but who knows...
Anyone here old enough to remember the Nixon years, when we were on EDT all year long one year? (At least in NY) Ah, the great energy crisis! Only cars with odd numbered plates could buy gas one day, even numbered plates the next day, and your thermostat wasn't supposed to be above 68 degrees...

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Personally I am sick of it and wish we could go back to regular time and stay there....IMHO

ditto, earthling.

I'm with you guys!!
My golfer friends say it changes so they can have time to play golf after work!! LOL

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

hey newbie I remember that! The stupid gas stations would run their lights and pumps to pump 2 bucks worth of gas into a thousand different cars. It was dark until 9 AM and we were darn near down to our last few quarts of Petrol (said the administration). Over 30 years ago and now, at 1.80 a gallon, gasoline is so plentiful we can each run our own mega guzzler
