For years I have watched pac ten teams snubbed and ignored by sports writters in favor of other conferencees.
Ranked pac ten teams that lose automaticaly drop up to ten places other teams drop two or three.
The general perception held by the voters is pac ten schools are not as good as the rest of the nation this is a flawed theory. In reality pac ten schools have few undefeated seasons because they play in a league so tough that they usually destroy each other on any given saturday.
More often than not pac ten schools are invited to play in bowl games and mismatched on paper to hopefully allow some one an easy victory.
pac ten schools have a habit of doing very well in bowl games much to their own credit and tonight was no exception. Number 14 Wash State destroyed number 5 Texas in a game just short of a rout.
Hey I am not even a cougar fan I just dislike the way pac ten schools are held with such disregard.
Football bowl games
and that was a fabulous game wasn't it! not a wsu fan, but im an 'anyone anti texas'-fan ! (i go to texas tech, who i may add did well in their own bowl today, which i was at :) ) i do agree though, the pac 10 is one of the conferences that just continually gets overlooked and discounted. but i guess voters are just weary since schools like TCU are trying to edge their way into a 'noteable' bowl these days. id say the whole bcs needs to be reevaluated.
Art yes but I sure don't know but it isn't rocket sicence to figure out there needs to be a better way or forget the hype of naming national champions.
But most of it is about money now isn't it? Regards Ernie
PS UCLA did let me down today
Football is considered an east coast thing by most sport writers. It is us, and it is them. Until Southern Cal came east to horse whip Alburn(?) this fall, no one thought much of them. The difference in time may be another factor. We hardly ever see west coast football on TV. The same with basketball.
Lets face it. The west coast is considered another 'country' by most east coasters. Sports writers as well as politicians alike find it 'easy' to do.
Golddog you could very well be right after all it is a fact that the Sea Hawks are from the West Coast and they are the poorest excuse for a team I can think of unless it is the not so exiting but predictable Seattle mariners.
I guess I am just irratated by bull. I am not saying some truley good teams don't come from the East because I have seen some really great ones there.
Look at the amount of West coast school alumni that are selected by the NFL.The teams are doing the voting there so to speak not the writters.Ernie
Well I don't know. The Seahawks are in the playoffs. Although they can't seem to win away. I lived in Palo Alto for a while where it was exiting to watch sports. From football to baseball to even water polo. It was good TV watching the Pac 10 on Thursdays and Saturdays playing basketball.
How many NCAA titles are from Stanford? Or UCLA? A lot.
Living there and then here, I just think the country is indeed split up. Very little is in common with either the east or the west.
Always the east calls the west the 'left coast'. I call the west the 'best coast'. No question!
Golddog your right lots.
Wooden C.L.A was quite the show for a long time.
And look at the Pac Ten victories in the Rose Bowl.
Ernie.
You don't get it? New york has more people than most states do! Guess what the writers are getting paid to write!
Look at the poor farmers & MAD COW! If this cow had been a New Yorker you wouldn't even heard about it!
Bernie from fly-over land!
umm...the most populous state is California and it is pretty far west as I, er recall. LOL
Bernie the mad cow is a, or is going to be a horrible manipulation of both the farmer and the retail coustomer.
phase one the cattlemen will get the shaft, prices for slaughter cattle are declining as we speak. local auctions are not being visited by major buyers.
When the market is depressed and lots of ranchers quit the scare will be over and demand will grow at a rate that will insure evavated prices.
Safeway,Krogers and so on will not be hurt but a lot of beef will come back to the market that starving ranchers sold for a very reduced rate those will go into the food supply at the new rate created by the false change of supply created to benifit those in the loop.
I call the whole subject BULL LONEY . I have no intention of laying off beef. Ernie
I don't raise cattle nor am an agent in any way connected to the beef industry. I just think marginal operators are going to go broke over this.
Good point Ernie.
Back to the bowl games. MINNESOTA wins!!!!
And they will only be better next year. What would the scores be if they had a pass defense?
Bernie
Bernie looking at the score your team did not have an easy time with the Pac school though they won.
Don't think anyone could say Ore did not play ball. Just reinforces my opinion that pac schoos are mostly just as competative as the next. Ernie
How about the thrashing USC gave Mich
That's what I am saying about MN. If they had a decent pass defense, we would have been there instead of Mich. Mich came with a passing game that MN couldn't stop in their game last fall. MN was way ahead and shouldn't have lost the game. They had the same trouble against Mich State & Iowa. So far MN & Iowa are the only bowl winners from the Big 10, 11?
Bernie
Bernie did you see the quote where one guy says so USC can have the rose bowl as long as his 12-1 team is the National championship winner.
He is trying to buy a hunk of the gold. Ernie
HEY, Hey, hey....what about those Terps from the Univ. of MD!!! Love them!!! They demolished West Virginia Univ.
Just like what U.S.C. - Trojans did to the Univ. of Michigan - Wolverines!! (SOB!!... our oldest son is a Michigan alumni & was lucky enough to get seats at the Rose Bowl....it would have been really "sweet", if they had won!! Oh well, can't have everything you wish for....)
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
