Pheww... I got a late Christmas present from my friend in the Netherlands today. It was full of neat little stuff, and one of them was a package of Sanwalwood Incense. Well, I lit one and the smoke started going up in the air. For a while I thought I were in India or something. What a great odour :D
I guess I should buy more of them, if I find them somewhere in Helsinki.
Does any of you use incenses? What's the best odour in your opinion?
Incenses
I personally don´t like incenses... even not lit ones, I can sense the odour from long distances and get imediatly nauseated >.
Yes, I agree with Monocromatico. I cant stand that odour for long:D
We burn incense all the time to remove cooking odors, etc. In fact, we just had a new carpet installed in the family room in our basement, and I burned a couple of sticks of incense to get rid of the "new carpet" smell. I like incense better than candles.
My favorite smell is patchouli.
My mother has some that smell like a roaring fire and it came with a little log cabin that the smoke rolls out of the chimney very cute i liked the smell if you don;t have a fire place and want to feel like you do this is a good fragrance
Nag Champa is my favorite at the moment but I also had a wonderful box given to me by a friend from India, unfortunately my Hindi is almost non-existant so I can't read the name ;)
I love incense as do some of our children and grandchildren. My DH however dislikes it intensely. So we have to close the door to any room we are burning it in. I have several favorites and Sandlewood is one of them.
I like potpouri better than incense. Patchouli does smell great, and I like mulberry, too.
I think Cinnamon makes a home smell real "homey" I love the combination of cinnamon and apples and really love liquid potpourri, but on occasion burn incense. The smoke tends to get to me and cause me to sneeze if it gets too strong.
Of course, in my younger days, incense was the thing :)!!!
I can't stand artificial perfumes to wear (get nauseated like some others here, but I love most essential oils (though not commercially mixed -I mix my own)
I like some incenses very much - others I can't stand
My favourites are one brought back from India by a friend and one that smells of old fashioned roses
I just burn them on special occasions
I like some incense, hate others. I cannot stand those that have a sweet, cloying smell.
In general, I like most sandalwoods, cedar, and a recent favorite is a blackberry sage that was a gift.
I do burn sage occasionally to cleanse an area, and then sweet grass to enhance it, quite like some of the Native American Indian rituals.
i use them here too, sometimes the kids yell whats burning-somethings on fire! lol I really like some of the aromas, but i have had some that smell like nothing but smoke!
I got 3 candles for christmas-honeysuckle,lily of the valley and HAZELNUT
Ahh yes I remember these! My cousins use to burn these in their bedrooms, only to cover up the smell of what they were smoking! LOL
Yep, They'd smoke maryjane and burn the incenses to cover the smell and their parents were unaware of what was really going on in there!
Haven't used them in years now. But I will admit that if I'm in the same room with it, it can get to be a little much.
MOLLYBEE it is enough to make me long for the old blacklight posters. I still have my big blacklight that was outside in my yard. Had chemicals that went into the waterfall to make it glow. The smell of sandalwood can still send me back to the 60's Lol. It is still my favorite. DH as asthma thogh so no incense burning in the house.
I'm with Baa, Nag Champa rules! I like some sandalwoods, some pachouli, but I'm as picky about incense as candles, or perfumes for that matter. So many are just plain gross! I got a great candle for Christmas, by Votivo, called Black Ginger (No 35b). Very, very nice. Oh, that reminded me, there's an incense out there called black coconut that is heavenly. I guess I like the musky smelling ones, but only if they're high quality.
My son bought a whole bunch of incense to take home to his friends. My daughter burned one of the gardenia or something like that = didnt smell like a gardenia really. They seem to be real big here but I wouldnt burn them myself/
we carry incense so it is burning alot in the house. it is really strong and if i find one that BF has lit befor it is compleatly finished i put it out this is the varity that we carry www.airsworld.com if enough people ask i will add it to my site http://sandsofthyme.scifstore.com
Looked at your site - what are earcandles please troy?
wow, that is an ancient remedy for ear problems.......cool (-:
ear candles are used to draw the wax and stuff out. they date back at least 3000 years and have been found in diferent cultures and geographis locations around the world. there is even egyptian hyrogliphs with them. there is lots of info on the web most positive some negitive. also some sites have them for $4-9 each
Suppose U should burn some ear Incense while burning the ear candles? LOL
;-P
I've always been fond of the Dragon's Blood incense..
it's one of the few incense scents that i can tolerate for long periods of time :)
Kim
Thsnks troy - I recall reading about them now
fascinating that they have been used for sooo many years!
I like patchouli, "amber", and "opium". I think that opium is named for the perfume, not the drug, though I have no idea what the drug smells like.
Evert, sandalwood perfume is one of the very best and most pleasing. I am sure it will be from India. You know, Evert, Sandalwood and its products are renown here in Mysore. Incense sticks are abundantly available. Sandalwood oil is available in government stores and they are very very expensive. They are costly because the process of extracting the oil itself is a very difficult one. It is used in numerous medicinal preparations as well as a cosmetic. When I inquired the cost, 5ml will cost a few hundreds of rupees.
One or two incense sticks are burnt in the 'God's room' as part of worship everyday.
