SNOW IN THE DESERT

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! I woke up at 5:45 this morning to let my puppies out and Surprize, Surprize, Snow. Wallace my Chow mix didn't even look and ran out and stopped dead in his tracts. He didn't want to move forward and he didn't want to turn around and come back in. He kinda twisted his body in some weird contortionist way like a pretzel and just jumped straight up and back in the door. I was ROTFLOL. I wish I had had a camera.
Just wanted to share that with you all. It was a great way to start my day.

Whenever we had a cat new to snow, my dad liked to pick them up and dump them out the front door in to it. Too funny! :)

I got a good laugh from your description, it must have been something to see in real life. A great way to start the day, well, maybe not so great for the dog. Sooner or later he's gotta go.

Dogs can be so much fun to watch the first time they experience snow. The first time our border collie Misty went out in snow she'd take a step and sniff her front paw, then take a another step and sniff her other front paw. After a few steps she decided it wasn't anything bad. She loves to play frisbee and since we don't get a big snow often when it does snow she's outside trying to catch the snowflakes - I wonder if she thinks they are mini frisbees??? lol

Young colts & fillies coming out of the barn into their first snow experience.....usually on their rear legs for a while.....then they can't wait to get loose and explode in that white stuff.
.........Yeee-Haaa, race ya lil sister..and there they all go..running, bucking, Slippin' & Slidin'.....miss a step and flop on their sides, snortin' and rolling in the snow.
It never gets OLD ;o)

Really funny description of your dog Jan. I love to watch animals find snow for the first time.

One of my Shelties was raised in a barn till I bought her at 3 months of age. She was introduced to snow just two weeks later. She ran out the door, into the snow, and promptly became a Pepe-le-peu cartoon character with stiff legs sproinging through the snow at as fast a speed as a little puppies legs could sproing. Up and down she went through the snow until she fell down on her side exhausted. We laughed till our sides were sore.

If only a person could anticipate things like these happening you could make money on the TV with videos of them. Fun memories though.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! somewhere else

Funny description of the dogs reaction to snow.

I agree with kikiesdad.. However we do need the moisture after our very dry summer. When I got up at 5:00 it was snowing pretty hard and now at 10:00 hasn't stopped. i went out about half an hour ago to shovel off my 250 feet of paths before snow got any deeper. It was 5" of heavy wet snow. It's not cold, about 29 degrees, just right for snow. We had 6" of snow a week ago, it was mostly gone. I guess I'll have to start my little snowblower. Donna

What's the complaining of snow all the time? We had snow in October and Novermber, lots of it - for maybe t hree days both times. Then it rained and now it has been pretty dry for last weeks. But no snow! I want it!! It is so dark outside without it, and what would a Christmas be without it?

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Evert speaks true. What would be Christmas with out snow, I cant even think about it....I want snow.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I've only experienced one snowy Christmas, and it was awful. We don't know how to deal with snow here, so roads were closed, packages didn't get delivered, electricity was a problem on and off, water was a big problem for lots of folks. Gimme a good ol' fashioned hurricane, we know how to deal with that ... LOL.

Guess who got snow now :D Last time I watched out of the window maybe 1 and ½ ago, it was still grey - now the ground has a thin cover of snow :) Yippee.. I hope we get more.

Is it snowing in Lpr, Mitjo?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

It hasn't snowed down here in Ft Lauderdale since New Years Day, 1977. And that was soon enough ago. I was born and raised in Michigan, came down here in 1978. I don't need snow to know it's Christmas, all I have to do is go down the street 3 doors, and look at all the decorations in Dave's yard. I don't need snow to do that. I need just a tank top and a pair of shorts and a pair of Keno's.

The best decoration I've seen here (in FL) is a rooftop lighted silhouette of Santa water skiing behind his sleigh which is being pulled by an Alligator. Does that say Christmas or what?

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

LOL kikisdad. Sounds like a weird Christmas to me up here in snow country. Can't wait till it snows. Even MY yard looks good snow covered. *giggle*
