Me and my family have decided to go abroad on january. Last time were visited in Portugal, and that was couple years ago.
At first we thought to go Far East, but then we had some problems with the price. And then we had the same problem with Gambia.
Then we found out, that there are really cheap flights to Florida. There is non stop Flight HKI-MIAMI, and MIAMI-HKI. Three nights in Miami and four nights in Orlando.
We are not sure about it yet. But at least this starts to sounds pretty good.
And it sure would be very cool to visit in U.S.A.
Wantabegardener gave me some good tips where to visit. and if you have any, please let me know=)
Maybe you will meet me in Florida:)
Good for you :) Too bad you didn't go to Vietnam, it would have been a great country for sure.
Then you can take your Floridan lipun mukaan if you decide to mennä sinne :D
Thanks Evert:D Yeah, Vietnam would have been great too...So great plants. And the culture is so special.
;) That's correct:)

You could be talking about me and I wouldn't even know it! (she says very humbly lol ) jk guys :) Now quit laughing and tell me what I just typed??? lol
Mitä sä höpötät? = What're you mumbling?
Joku is pahaa = something is bad
Ollaanks we tehty something pahaa = Have we done something bad
;)
Hehe.. Hassu. Kylläkin, we were supposed to puhua about Florida :]
Hey that wasn't too terrible! lol :)
So Mitjo, are you going to spend all your time at Disney?
Mitjo, don't miss a water park, I recommend Blizzard Beach! Orlando is our favorite destination for a family vacation. You will all love it.
Of course the Disney people offer a special "plant tour" for serious gardeners. They have some really spectacular people on staff, and they have come up with some really outstanding new techniques, mostly they are applicable to greenhouse gardeners in the US. If you can fit that in, a definite must!
And you are going to beat Evert to the US! Way to go!
I wont spend all the time in the Disney world...LOl.:)
Thank you Sue_WA and Lupinelover:) Nice ideas.
Mitjo, Leu Gardens in Orlando is supposed to be very nice. I haven't gone yet, but maybe I'll make it one day...
Keep us informed and hope you have fun here!
Mitjo...yes...Leu Gardens is very nice. There are so many that lives within a 2 hour drive that I am sure lot's of DG's would like to meet you. Jo
Mitjo, this is Harry P. Leu Garden located in Orlando on the north side I believe.
Here's the website http://www.leugardens.org/

And this is Bok Tower Garden located south of Orlando in Wales. The website is http://www.boktower.org/
What I really liked about Florida was the seashells. The Gulf Coast has better seashells than the Atlantic, at least that's how I found it in 1975. Though I was just a kid, I liked looking for seashells better than Disney World. I guess I was a strange kid. I can't say that I've outgrown it, either. ;-)
Mitjo,
...... What ever you do my friend you MUST take a ride to Key West, which is not far from Miami.
....... The overseas Highway is amazing and full of history.
.........Hundreds of Keys (Islands), and some are connected by a highway of bridges. The longest is the "Seven Mile Bridge"
...... Bahai Honda State Park on the way down to KW is also a must see.
................The entire Big Pine Key is a preserve to protect the tiny endangered Key Deer.
Make sure you take a picture at the Southernmost Point at the END of Key West island.
......One of my fav spots to have a meal is "Bahama Mama's". A quaint and very colorful outdoor café serving yummy Bahamian food, which I love for it's flavor and simplicity . I first saw this place on the TV.
........Residents refer to Key West as "The Rock" as it is atop an ancient coral reef.
Have a safe trip Mitjo,

Key West is definately a great idea, here's a pic of Mallory Square at sunset (They make a holiday of the sunset every day.) And a winter holiday there, you shouldn't get fried by the sun. Then there is the Edison Winter Home in Ft Myers, Fla. The have an extremely large Banyan Tree, as well as botanical gardens.
Oh my gosh!
Trillium, the garden looks great, I'll sure have to keep that behind my ear. Thank Roadrunne:)
Diana told me about Keywest, and it sure looks beautiful!
Oh, yes - Bok Tower! I've been there a couple of times and it's fabulous.
Bok Tower would be great to see! Maybe you should fly into Tampa instead. hehehe We're only 20 minutes from the airport via the local parkway :) I'll bet we can get a group of people together to meet up with you in your travels, wouldn't that be great?
Floridian, If that idea bears fruit, npi, let us know. We're 20 minutes up the Suncoast Parkway from Lutz in Spring Hill.
Yes, I think the West Coast of Fla has more interesting things...The Manatees of Homossa Springs, Weeki Wachee mermaids, Sanibel, Tarpon Springs (the sponge boats harbor here). But any where you go in this world of ours, you will find something facinating. Jo
Floridian, it sure would be great to meet some DG members:)
But you have to remember that my english is not very good;)
Couple guestions, how long does it take to drive from Miami to Orlando? And long does it take to drive from Orlando to Kennedy spacecenter? And how big city is Orlando?
Fairchild Tropical Gardens http://www.fairchildgarden.org just south of Miami, in my opinion, is the best of the Florida gardens. To pass this garden by, would be a mistake. Especially if you are only visiting once.
52 acres hit head on by hurricane Andrew, it has responded exceptionally well. Tropicals from all parts of the world. Named for David Fairchild, plant explorer.
Miami to Orlando 4 hours, Orlando to Kennedy 1 hour
think of all the tropical seeds you can smuggle out of there!
Golddog! Thank you! And thanks Molly!
:D
City of Orlando population is 186,000, size is 104 square miles. www.cityoforlando.net try that link for the city home page. It will take you to related sites as well.
:)
We booked our flight tickets, HKI-MIAMI and MIAMI-HKI, today! Three days in Miami, and four days in Orlando. Three days tickets in the Disneyland (We are not going to be three days in there, maybe two) and a car belong to the price. 4100€. My mother, father, my, my sister and brother.
10.01.2004 /tenth of january 2004.
MITJO, one of the better kept secrets in Miami is the Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead (South of Miami on the way to the Keys). They collect specimen trees from all over the world and grow them there. They have exotic fruit trees that you would never see unless you traveled the world! My brother-in-law was a master gardner there and my daughter was a tour guide. They have wonderful plant festivals there, and the Asian festival is not to be missed. Hope you have a great vacation!
Pati
Pati, I never knew about this, I will be sure to check it out the next time I drive down.
P.S. how is your spanish shawl doing?
Shirley

Hi Scooter, It's doing GREAT! It just grew gracefully longer trailing vines until the cool weather. In the last two weeks it looks like it's sprouting a crown of new vines all around the top. Looks kinda' like a crew cut with long pony tails. grin. If I can ever come to terms with the evil sprit that lives in my camera, I will post a picture.
By all means don't miss the park. It's not like Fairchild Gardens, which is so lucious and beautiful, but it's so interesting.
Pati
Mitjo,
Bok Tower is a must for the plant lover. It's a pity that Cypress Gardens is currently closed, as it's something else you would have enjoyed, and is on the way to Bok Tower.
If you'll be coming back to Miami between the 15-17 of January, the Tropical Plant Indoor Exhibition will be going on in Ft. Lauderdale. It's about 30-40 minutes North of Miami. If you make it, our main company's booth is 1221
Come by and say hi.
Info on the show http://www.fnga.org/tpie/general.asp
Have a good trip regardless.
Chris
Chris will you be at the FNGA TPIE in January?
I think I should like to go there and check it out.
Molly
Hi Molly,
I sure will. Our booth is #1221 for Bill Moore & Co. If you need a hand getting a badge, just let me know.
Lots of unusual tropicals, foliage, etc.
You should come on Sat, as that's the last day of the show, and exhibitors are selling their booths and plants as a whole or just individual plants as well. They'd rather just get out of there than have to lug a bunch of plants out, so you can get some really good deals on young plants and finished plants.
Chris
Chris...This is a wholesalers convention?.....I guess I could use help with that badge Chris. Don't think a house painter will qualify as wholesaler. Thanks, Molly
