Desert Island Question in Reverse

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Here's the desert island question sort of in reverse.

If you were stuck on the sterotypical desert island, what plant would you bring home with you, assuming that any tropical plant would be available? (BTW, why is it called a "desert" island when they are always shown as being tropical jungles?)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Some beautiful fern. Or giant elephant ears. I'm sure I could find something.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

How big a boat will I be leaving in? I know you said "What plant" but who would know?.....LOL

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

One plant only, but it doesn't matter what size.

Jonesboro, AR(Zone 7a)

Definitely Moonflower! Mmmmm that smell!

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

datura or ipomoea? lots of people here have that :)

Black Diamond, WA(Zone 8a)

Coconut palm or mango tree, gotta sustain

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

I'd have to say, banana tree, as life can be sustained by bananas alone. (me and dough, thinking about food!).

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

I think I would pick mango because the bananas that I dearly love give me heartburn. lol

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

We aren't talking sustinance here guys! lol We are talking about what plant would you bring HOME with you. :)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

It's supposed to be deserted island, until it became easier to shorten it to desert....IMHO

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

oh. huh. ya learn something new every day...

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Oh...missed the point here...

Okay, I'd bring home a bird-of-paradise plant in full bloom!

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

That's the ticket! :)
I think I'd bring home...a 50' tall EE! lol

Jonesboro, AR(Zone 7a)

Uh oh! It would be a toss up with ecobioangie's 50' EE! Or......would you mine sharing?!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

UNLESSSSssss....It's a deserted desert island ;)
§

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

oooooh, what about a dessert island??? hehehehehee :)

Of course I can share! :)

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

I would dearly love one of those HUGE fern trees. sigh They are soooo pretty.

Jonesboro, AR(Zone 7a)

Welcome to Dessert Island! Where all of your sweet dreams come true!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Oh, my...I need to stay away from that dessert island!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

oh yippee. I'll take the second tumbleweed from the left then. :(

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Sorry you don't want some desert for dessert, but as I said before, I really must stay away from desserts. I may live in L.A., but I certainly don't look like a Baywatch babe. I'm more the size of Shaquille O'Neal. :-(

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

lol! Well come out here and string up these Christmas lights I'm too short to hang then! :)

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I don't have the height of Shaq, just the width. :-(

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

I guess I'd come off the island with a blooming size Hong Kong Orchid Tree since my latest attempt to get one involved sneaking into the Gorilla habitat at a well known theme park and snipping off a cutting. It sits here on the window ledge thinking about putting down roots (the cutting not the Silverback).

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

LOL to both!

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

Mango tree, definitely. When we were in Honduras the mango trees were in full fruit and the air was heavy laden with the fragrance - intoxicating and lovely!

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

A guy in Swampscott MA had a palm tree (20 ft tall) planted in his front yard one summer. Looked very cool until it snowed and tree died. He might have convinced his neighbors he had too much money. Do you think he convinced them he's not a JERK?

Temple, GA(Zone 7b)

I have a friend who has about 5 Palm Trees planted down at the end of their property by their lake, and in winter, they put Christmas lights and some other kind of lights all around the base to keep the roots warm and beleive it or not, they are still beautiful. They kinda dug a hole around the base and put bigger lights a little underground and it worked. And they live in College Park, Ga. If I had my choice it would be a Palm Tree, or one of those little spikey looking coconut looking plants. Not sure of the name, but they grow like a tee-niny palm with no stalk.

Thanks, Traci

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

sago?

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

I wouldn't come home, I'd stay there and be warm.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

LOL Carena.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ae Ae Nana with buds...LOL

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

hmmmm I think I might join CC in her want although I want my Ae Ae to have TONS and TONS of pups on it.
