Show me your stockings! :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay, no nylons or socks here! LOL Every year or so, maybe when we add a family member (chuckle) we go out and get a new stocking or stockings for all. They don't seem to change much or appeal to me anymore and over 13 years, we have really worn some out. SO, this year I bought red quilted fabric, made a stencil and cut out 16 pieces, to make 8 stockings, one for the new baby too. Well, now I don't know what to put on them, how to embellish them, etc. I thought some of you dear people might share favorites to give me some ideas??? So, who wants to show me their stockings? Please???

The only one I have is a big knit one my grandma got me years ago. It stretches, a very good quality for a Christmas stocking!

Is it like a thin sweater type material? I have ONE of those. LOL

*sigh* -- Let me go get a picture. ;)

Oh those are nice! Thank you!

The kids are especially thrilled to see Emma and the kitty pillow. :)

Badseed, I think it would be cute to put everyone's "nicknames" on their stockings. I'm sure you have pet names for everyone :) Maybe in a gold glue pen or glitter pen. You could even stencil it on, instead of the collar, do it down the side of the stocking. :)

Of course I have angels on my stocking.
Badseed; do you do any needlepoint or embroidary? Could do something like that, putting everyone's name on their stocking.
Decorate with old jewerly, sequins, beads, decorated cut-out felt shapes, tiny ribbon bows with little bells.

Personalize each one to their likes. If one person collects or likes teddy bears; you can buy a package of those real tiny bears and put them on it.

Will come back when have more time or if I think of anything else to add

Maybe you can get some ideas from here:

(GW, didja notice how Emma is "winking"? Either to herself or us...methinks she knows there might be something good in them stockings soon!)

Believe it or not folks, I myself actually have a stocking, too!

Why wouldn't you have a stocking, Shoe? Doesn't everybody? I know that I certainly wouldn't be caught without mine at Christmas time. Without a stocking, where would Santa put all those little goodies? (Think wrist watches, diamonds and pearls, cash, stocks and bonds ......and actually get a buncha cute little things that we just love. LOL!)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

CoCo those are really cute! I love the plaid tops and toes and heels. Looking at the prices, I am reminded of why I decided to make them this year! LOL I have all the pieces hemmed now (didn't want the quilting to come out why I decide, and don't want to sew them together in case I have to sew on one side, whew!) and I have the loops made. I'm still considering. Anyone else with ideas?

Shoe, just a thought for ya...get two stockings, gently coax your foot in. Just see how it feels. Then maybe slide one onto your second foot. Maybe sit for a spell, then take a few gliding steps. Who knows? You may even want to try shoes?!?!? LOL Jugs!

(Somebody say ...? Thought so!)

BS, if I put 'em on my feets there'll be no room for anything else to get put in 'em!

It is certainly cold enuff here for (most) people to be wearing big socks. There was ice on the ground yesterday. (I nearly had to put on my flipflops for warmth.)

When I was younger someone gave me some warm socks, and they were warmed with batteries! I only wore them once, they made my toes tingle. They didn't last very long either. I didn't know you weren't s'posed to wear them in water.

I wish I had them now tho...I could hang them on the mantle and run Christmas lights off the batteries.

There is just no hope! LOL

O what memories the word stocking brings to my mind.
There's a story that goes with it too hee hee

I am the baby of 7 kids. My parents never had all that much money and when Christmas came we were all happy with our little pile of things "Santa" had left for us.
Never thought anymore about our stocking that hung on the mantle all lined up across the front. Until....I was about 5 or 6 and we had always watched "The Waltons Christmas Special" Well I being the youngest decided to write Santa a note and find out why he didn't fill our stockings like he done on the Waltons? LOL Yep you guessed it, the next morning there it was stuffed to the rim with candy cookies, cracker jacks, apple and a orange. I was soo happy! I don't even remember if the stocking was filled the following year or not but once I found out who Santa really was...I vowed then that if I had childern I would always fill their stockings. :)
I have all of the stockings that me and my sisters and brothers had when we were growing up, far as I know they are about 36yrs old now and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world :D
Now my own childern have their own stockings in which I hope to always have for them until they are grown and married and have childern of their own.
Thanks for the memories!

You won't believe what I bought yesterday. I have christmas stocking(4) storage in the shed.. They are all so red with white fake fur on the top with their names on it. SInce we got a new house.. I went shopping and looked around for pretty christmas socking but they cost over $15 dollars. FORGET IT. I wont buy it for that price each! I decided to wait and make/sew stocking for us. SOmehow I stopped by Dollar stores. I found them! They're pretty and only $3 each. I grabbed 4 then I forget about Matthew so I got other one! LOL. We dont have the mantle at new house but we are going to install one soon. We're not move in house yet.. the floors have hold us back. We need to order more creamic tiles and grout it. Lots of work. It is 1/3 left on the floor that need to be cover up. I can't wait.

But I likes the old christmas socking like Gardenwife have. I would buy them for us. I couldn't find them around. :o(

Wow! I didn't know you go more than 1 stocking. I still have mine from when I was a kid. These are my childrens. I made them. I used to make them for people's kids as a baby gift but noticed many never got used so I quit doing it. I like them. It doesn't matter if the goodies have odd shapes.

Bad if you get stuck just put tens and twentys on the outside for a real Christmas look . Well it is red and green isn't it.

If you don't like my idea skip the first part and send me the Tens and twentys.

I was just downloading my camera and realized I never did say or post what I ended up doing. I'm sure you are all dying to know! LOL I took some inspiration from CoCo's hyperlink. My four year old picked out the contrasting fabric. Thanks to those of you that helped with ideas and pics.

Those turned out cute! Bet those kept you busy for a while.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks Kimberley! It wasn't really that bad. I made a pattern on cardboard and got them all cut out in one night. After we got the other fabric, I cut the accents a second night. I had them sewn together in two afternoons (just a few hours). I was working every other night so did them when I was home AND awake. LOL
