Winners of the 2003 Photo Contest!

The voting is finished and I have to say that I am very impressed with how well the contest went this year.

In all the years past, we selected a committee of judges who would then go through and select the winners. This year we did an "entire-membership" voting, where everyone took part in the votes.

The result is that, in my opinion, truly the most worthy pictures were selected. Congratulations to the winners for posting such excellent pictures, and to the judges for selecting them!

You can view the winners (and all the runner-ups) here: http://davesgarden.com/contest/2003/

Wow! Great pics!
Congratulations to all the winners! (I think that is all of us, we're all winners when we get to view so many fantastic pictures!)

Great shots, folks! Love 'em!

I think my favorite category is the Birds, Butterflys, Bees and Bugs. All those winning pics were certainly well-picked!

Shoe, I agree! The BBB was my favorite, too - they were some beautiful shots in that contest and not enough categories in which to vote!! :)

This was the greatest.......congrats to all the winners and thanks to all the entered. I loved looking at all the photos and it was a really honor for Dave to let us all vote........I tell you what some of these were really hard to judge and when it came down to a few I flipped a coin and let the last two stand. Everyone really did a good job......

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Very Cool! Looks like the new contest program is a keeper and next years contests should be outstanding!

Congratulations to all our wonderful winners! And for those of you who did not enter this year...Why?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Lots of talented folks here at DG...but we already knew that!

I think the contest program was wonderful and having the whole membership vote was an ideal situation. It's taken a couple of years for us to get it fine tuned, but I agree with Zany...this is a keeper!

My vote is to have the contest in the same format next year.It works,It's fair, and we get some great photos to look at.

Congrats to all of the winners and to Dave!

Congratulations everyone!!! Wonderful photos for sure.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

This was my first entry for the international contest and I stil could hardly blieve my eyes.
It's too good to be true.

I'm most grateful to those who viewed and voted for me ,and to Dave and his staff as well, who organized the contest this way.
I've enjoyed and learned a lot from other participants' photos.

Last but not in the least , let me offer my hearty congratulations to other winners!

All of the pictures were great. It was great having the voting done this way Dave. No big burden on a few people going through all the pictures and making the decision. I congratulate all the winners and runner ups for their photos. They were all just awesome and Thanks to you Dave for making this possible. This is just another one of the little perks that is given to the members from our favorite webmaster. Everyone likes to have a voice and this method of voting was perfect.

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

I was lucky enough to be picked for a first and 3 thirds, I am overwhelmed! Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to everyone who took the time out to vote. And a big thank you to Dave and his helpers for sponsoring this contest. This was a very enjoyable opportunity for us to get together and share our gardens.

I thought the contest was a lot of fun. I liked entering my photo's but I especially enjoyed viewing every picture and choosing my favorites. There were so many great shots, I had a hard time making up my mind, but I had fun voting!

Northern California, CA

I also wanted to chime in and thank Dave for a well run and great photo contest. So many interesting ideas and images.

And thank you to all who voted, whether for my images or those submitted by other members. I'm overwhelmed by the response to my pictures, to echo Sally Fields' remark "You really like them!" Thanks so very much.

My job is to hold the camera; the camera, luck and old Mother Nature do the rest as evidenced by a very similar shot taken today. Same camera, same location, same camera holder, but Mom Nature just didn't provide the same light and Old Man Winter has chilled the green stuff!

Congradulations Mitjo. (I thought your Canada goose pic was the best) Accolades to you even if I can't spell correctly. Frank.

Irving (Dallas area), TX(Zone 8a)

Here's a suggestion that I think could get more of our members involved both in posting photos and voting: how about having photo contests every month, and then the monthly winners compete for the annual contests? That way, it might seem like there's a better chance to win every month, and fewer photos for members to "wade" through in order to vote.

Thanks as always for a great website community.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

I personally like Pauls idea, it would be much easier to choose from 12 than from 100's. Plus, something fun to do every month.

I like it too.....Jo

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Paul, that's genuis inspiration there!! Much easier to judge at the end of the year too!! How about it Dave?? Sure the winter months would be lean, but then that's what greenhouses and hydroponics are for, right? Right!!!!!

Editing to say, OOPS.......congratulations everybody!!! I think a standing ovation is in order, here ^^^^^^^^^^^^!!!!!

Wouldn't necesarily have to be plants would it? I mean we did bugs and birds, we could still do wildlife, and sn*w pictures. Houseplants....
or we could enter pictures we took this summer?

That way we can all dream about what we'll do when summer is here again.

My thanx go out to all the participants and voters in the photo contests! I do believe that we have a mitey fine bunch of photographers here at DG.

Wonderful photos and contest. I was so excited to be one of the winners. it was just great to look at all the wonderful photos. It would be hard to say which is my favorite as there are so many wonderful shots. I collect dragonfly artifacts and I guess at least one of my favs. is JoanMN closeup of the dragonfly, it is just fabulous. Donna

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Congratulations to the winners, I was happy to find my own picture from the 2nd place in the bee category.. But then I noticed that Mitjo's picture which has also had the same amount of votes as mine - 17 - is on the first place?

:]

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Evert - same thing happened to me, mine placed third with the same number of votes as #2. Hey, I feel honored to have placed at all. Afterall, there were 1126 entries and I placed third in one of the larger categories. Considering I only entered one photo into the whole contest, I'm happily surprised. And there were so many awesome shots. Congratulations to one and all.

Edited for clarification.
