Then again as I look at the menu's perhaps I'll skip ours altogether and just do the 4 and 6 thing.
Cheesecake and pies are finished so can bring them along.

Melody that sounds great! Never had taters with cream cheese!
oh good, we all have time to travel and get there by Sunday! tomatoes?? oh man....
going to someone elses house (and I don't have to bring a thing!!) = first time not cooking in over 20 years!! Can't wait!! Will do a turkey the next week = just for the leftovers!! yahoooooooo
My only duty is to whip up about 10 pumpkin pies and Fiona has decided she wants to do it. (Of course that means twice as much mess but what the heck.) I gave up Thanksgiving dinner about 15 years ago and low and behold, someone else decided to do it! Yippee!
Who, Bob and I, two of my Brothers and their wives, several nephews and Nieces with their spouses and children, and My parents at the head of the table.
Where, Benbow Inn in Garberville.
Menu, Turkey and? (Who cares, it is bound to be deliscious)
Left overs...one 21 lb turkey and cornbread stuffing that I will cook just so everyone can snack late and a couple pies that my Sis in law is providing.
NotMartha - would you share your recipe for yummy pecan stuffing? It sounds yummy.
And Melody - would you share your recipe for fresh cranberry relish with pecans? It sounds yummy too.
Can you tell I like pecans?
I get to go out twice once for dinner at SIL house, who is a wonderful cook and Sunday large family dinner at a restaurant. Best part is getting the leftovers at SIL's since they don't eat much of them.
I am baking Home made breads, cinnamon rolls, and orange rolls today as my contribution. The kitchen smells gooooood today!!
I did 8 loaves of bread yesterday for my son to take to work today for company dinner.
Dinner is at 1:00 Thursday and 4:00 on Sunday a few extra would be great.
Hey, Melody! Are you sure you have enough fresh heirloom tomatoes for all of us who are going to show up on Sunday? LOL.
Darius,I have 5 large ones at the moment that will be ripe enough...red ones and gold ones.I'll just slice them_very_thin! come on down!
Edited to say that if you'll show up Darius,I'll let you have one of your very own!

You're cute, Melody!
Seriously, isn't it wonderful to be having your very own fresh tomatoes for a holiday family meal? I'd take that tomato over turkey any day!
Me too!
Who: DH Ralph, myself, DS Jeff, DD Moriah and DGD Tory, DD Laura, her husband, Jason, DGD Halee, DGSs Nicholas and Christopher, Moriah's friend Terra and her daughter, Nakia.
What:
Roast Turkey w our own fresh sausage, walnut, giblets, and cranberry stuffing...lots of sage.
Smashed potatoes
Pan gravy
Butternut squash
Sweet Potato casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Fresh broccoli (from our own garden)
Fresh turnips (from our garden)
Perhaps kale and/or swiss chard from our garden
Creamed onions (these are to die for) you'll want this recipe. :)
Fresh cranberry/orange relish
Cranberry sauce
pickles, olives,
Rolls
I have some fresh parsnips I may cook also.
Desert: Pies: Apple, Pumpkin (fresh from the garden pumpkin), Chocolate, Cherry, Banana Cream, Lemon Meringue, Banana Nut Bread, Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, Vanilla Ice Cream
Pepperoni, Cheese, Crackers, Chex Mix, Chocolates
When and where: 3 p.m. (or close to it) at our farm
Why: Because it was easier to cook at my house rather than load all my dinner making paraphernalia onto the "Ryder" truck and haul it all to my 26 yo batchelor son's.....[who by the way was disappointed as he wanted us all to gather on his one couch :)] and eat.... and there's no place like home. I love the leftovers, so would have made a meal at home anyhow. (Personally, I think my son was counting on all the leftovers at his house...mode to his madness).
Happy Thanksgiving and many blessings to all you special DG people.
Happy Day,
Kathy & Ralph @ Misty Meadows Farm

Hmmm, this year holidays are going to be abbreviated around here. Nice and quiet, simple and easy if I get my way.
Who: Mom, Dad, Sister, DD (and the grandbaby!) & me.
What: Ham, rice dressing, candied yams, broccoli w/cheese sauce, artichoke casserole, assorted vegetables and maybe cornbread dressing (if I get around to it). For dessert, apple cake, maybe apple pie (if Mom gets around to it) and maybe cassada (if DD & I get around to it ... it ain't looking good).
Where: Mom & Dad's House
When: Thursday, around 1:00
Why: Because no one can deal with the whole huge family-gathering-feast-thing this year.
Cheri'
sundry, what's cassada?
LOL, Misty you got more dessert than we have dinner! sounds like everyone is having quite a spread.
I am wondering about that "cassada" also? What is it?
Misty, did you post the recipe for creamed onions yet?
Casada is a wonderfully rich dessert that my grandmother used to make for all holidays. I'm not sure how to spell it, but that's the way it sounds. My grandmother didn't have any recipes written down. I'm the keeper of that particular tradition, and I do a lousy job of keeping it up. I'm passing it off to my DD (shhh, don't tell her) LOL
Anyway, it's layers of pound cake (sliced so thin you can almost see thru it), custard sauce, ground chocolate, ground pecans and some people like coconut. I don't do the coconut, my grandmother only did coconut on special request at Easter, and she was never all that happy about it. After my Grandfather died, she never did the coconut again. LOL! Guess who liked coconut.
Thin layers is the key. Lots of thin layers. Garnished with chocolate curls and cherries. Make it a day ahead, let it sit in the fridge overnight. Good stuff, but rich, so serve it in small portions. Of course, as soon as you turn your back everyone will get seconds. You cannot make enough of this stuff.
It's not hard to make, once you get the chocolate ground.

Posting that recipe now. :) Kathy @ Misty Meadows Farm
The recipe is now on Recipes Forum....Creamed Onions...enjoy!

sundry, sounds like it may be cassata cake. Here are the Google search results:

Thank you Kathy!!!
Your welcome tiG....I hope you get to make them and enjoy them. I just made mine and will warm them up tomorrow. I think they are even better the next day. I'm trying to do all I can today so I can enjoy the day tomorrow. :) Have my butternut squash in the oven now and cranberry/orange relish made. Will be cooking turnips soon :) and then baking cakes and pies.
Oh and haighr...I make so many desserts because I make everyone's favorite. If you were coming to my house, I would ask you what your favorite food is, dessert or meal, and make it for you. That's why I have so many things....all the favorites made at one time, once a year :)
I hope you have a wonderful day and dinner. :) K
That is fabulous of you Misty - so how bout throwing a lobster on the grill just in case I show up! LOL and maybe some Boston cream pie?
haighr, I am allergic to seafood and have never cooked a lobster, but by golly, if that's what you want....you got it! Hey I'm from Mass., so I know how to make Boston Cream Pie!!! Let me know when you will be here :)

yahoo answers to Casada cake at www.ladycakes.com/Recipes/Cakes/Casada%20Cake.htm
It's not a casada cake, we have looked at those recipes. All I know is my grandmother used to make it and called it casada. And it's yummy.
