Can't Stand It!

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Jealous people - you know, the ones who always have to tear you down because you have or do something better than they do.

Parents, while in the same room, who expect you to babysit/discipline their kids because the are too lazy/irresponsible to do it themselves. There is a woman in our social group whose child is completely out of control and I and 3 others are disciplining him and watching him to make sure he stays out of trouble and doesn't get hurt. The kid is only 2. I know "it takes a village to raise a child" but this is ridiculous, especially since I strongly believe in not disciplining other people's kids.

People with food issues, not real ones, the "I don't like this...I don't like that...make me something different, cater to my demands". Hey buddy, this is what's here, if you don't like it don't eat it.

People who lack basic courtesies, like saying "excuse me", "thank you", "please".

People who think they are superior to you, for any number of reasons, ie they are vegetarian, go to church every day, have more money, etc. Which is only annoying until you find out more about their lives and then it becomes funny-HAHA when you realize how UNsuperior they really are.

Cell phones. Mostly because a great deal of the people who use them have no clue.

People who live "soap opera" lives. The ones who cannot live without a lot of drama. And then you have to listen to them whine about it even though it is their actions and way of thinking that is causing it.

There! I'm done venting. Next...

Children running, screaming, fighting etc., etc., etc. in the mall while their mothers chat, shop or do anything but tend to their children. I guess I am old and out of date, but it was always important to me that other people enjoyed being around my children as much as I did. My children, grand children and the oldest great grandchild know how to set a proper table, even to several silver settings. This is not the usual thing for dinner at home, but when they go to an "adult resturant" they know the drill!!! The training begins at home with the parents.

My mother used to say, "If you don't like what I fixed, eat what you brought."

I still think that's a wonderful saying. : )

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Darius, I love your mother's comment, right to the point!! My mother taught me, as I taught mine, the it was "ill manners" to comment on the food. Yes, I really am OLD, to be accused of having "ill manners" was shameful. LOL

I dont like people who dont bother to study any other languages than their own.
I dont like people who speak too quetly or people who speak too loudly.

I hate small kids who start to scream in restaurant, foodstore etc.

Cronic Complainers - That's my gripe! lol!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

sorry - I just thought of another thing that annoys me beyond all expectations ...

I hate it when people 'correct' the spelling of my name. It's my name. I've been spelling it for 35 years, don't you think I know how to spell my own name???
grrrrrrrrrrrrr ....

Venting is good for the soul LOL

I don't like people who don't like me because I don't like learning languages I don't need to know.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Man, after reading this thread, I'm afraid to leave my house for fear of offending *someone*, *somewhere* now, LOL! You can please some of the people, some of the time, but never all of the people, all of the time! ;)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I'm with you gardenwife! That's kind of why I posted what I did! lol!

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

I'm offended by people who are offended by things that don't offend me. And by people who are offended by the same things as me, but not as much, or too much. (Do I make myself perfectly unclear?)

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

whingers LOL

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

I am offended by friends (just 2) that are always late. They just don't get it. 6 o'clock means 6:15. And so on.

Lately I have been trying to slow my life down a bit, and not take as seriously the small stuff. But I still think being on time is important. Being on time says that one can depend on me, and by someone not being on time, it very well may mean I can't completely depend on them. And that is what is bothersome.

Porterfield, WI(Zone 4b)

As long as this is vent time, here are mine, maybe it will help me to be more charitable and less irritated for the holiday season.

Just went shopping yesterday, yes, it's a big event, I hate to shop!! People whose shopping is apparently more important than yours, as you are looking at something, or your cart is in front of you, they expect YOU to move, so they can see/get what THEY want!!!

We are allowed to eat at our desks in the office, and I suffer from migraines, and also eat very healthy. People who microwave god-knows-what, made with tons of garlic and grease and yuk, and haul it into the small office to smack away on, and the whole office reeks for the entire afternoon!!

The children issue, very irritating to folks who no longer have kids at home and are totally blind to what the little darlings are up to. But that one's been hit on well!!

People who have been there, done that, one better, no matter what the topic!!

AHHHHHHHH, I feel better already!! Thanks for letting me vent!!! Legit

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

The very worst...I don't like rude people! I had to work retail the day after Thanksgiving and again today. ;)

I was nearly killed in the deli line over who's turn it was.

I think I scared my server in a restaurant last night by saying "please" and "thank you".

Manners should not be wasted.

Did you see on the news - the woman in Florida trampled by shoppers at Walmart? Even after the paramedics were there, the shoppers seemed oblivious to everything but the sale.

this little chicken says cluck, cluck cluck

Washington, PA(Zone 6b)

My neighbor wanted me to go shopping on friday morning and I flat out refused. Those after-Thanksgiving-day shoppers are nuts! I would not subject myself to that type of behavior for a sale. I'd rather pay full price and keep a little faith in humanity.

I hate rude people.

I can't stand people who take, take, take, and are nowhere in sight when needed or can't even pick up the phone to say hi.

I can't stand people who drive like idiots.

I'm sorry about your husband ilovejesus99, I've added him to my can't-stand list.

I have a few more but mostly boils down to rude people.

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

lol groovy, tell us how you really feel :)!

I will not shop the day after Thanksgiving or on weekends, for that matter. I prefer to avoid crowds, I like quiet and I like my space.

I did go to the grocery store yesterday. It's situated in a strip mall like setting. While trying to find a place to park it reminded me of another one of my pet peeves.

I hate it when people leave the shopping carts in the parking lot, it makes me crazy! Around here people leave the carts wherever they please without a care for others. The carts clog up the lots and the wind blows them all over the place, into cars, etc.

I park very selectively to protect my truck, usually at the back of the lot. I always grab stray carts because I am afraid the the wind will carry them and they will do damage. And, I always return my used cart. Let me tell you, it would not be a pretty site if a cart hurt my truck.

Washington, PA(Zone 6b)

Sorry branka, LOL!

I guess I should add that I am a very courteous person, I say please and thank you and excuse me every chance I get. I hold doors and let people turn in front of me on the road, I'm nice to everybody even though they don't deserve it because I am always hoping that I can pass some decency onto someone who doesn't have any, although I'm probably just fooling myself.

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

groovytee, it has to start somewhere. Reminds me of a favorite bumper sticker (Ca), "World Peace Starts With Me".

Honor, MI(Zone 5b)

People who leave their cell phones on in restaurants, theaters, concerts....people who throw their cigarette butts out their windows or on the beaches.....parents who cannot control their children in any given situation.....or abuse of children in any given situation...
parent who take their children shopping and then get mad at them when the children get tired of it and want to go home...
I did see that, elsie. I thought that was so horrible, and not a very good testimony to the American culture as a whole. When a $29. DVD is more important than another human being....very sad. I didn't really appreciate Wallmart's reaction to it, either.
People who are mean to animals in any way....ignorance....people who refuse to listen to an opposing point of view....insomnia.....people who throw out dirty diapers on the street, in parking lots, et....the list could go on and on!!!! I sound like such a GRUMP! Really, I am not!!

Honor, MI(Zone 5b)

oh, yeah, and I agree--call waiting!!! It drives me SO crazy. It's rude! And people wo are habitually late...that's rude too! How about elevator mucic and music that they play while you are "on Hold"? WHERE do they find that music? NO ONE listens to that kind of music!

groovytee, I had a stressy day and wanted to vent but held back. Your post was just what I needed, couldn't have said it better myself and I feel better now. Thanks!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

The cigarette butts out the window thing is one of my pet peeves; I fantasize about picking up the cig and flicking it back in the owner's window as I say sweetly, "you probably didn't notice, but you dropped something".

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

On the cigarette butts out the window... A friend once remarked about throwing butts out the window:

"We are killing Mother Earth one cigarette butt at a time."

Cigarette butts in a coffee can full of water makes a great weed killer, so I think she's right.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

People that complain about "Smokers"....pick,pick,pick,pick,pick......I have had enough.........STOP ALREADY........I'm not going to give up my Cigarettes. I've tried to quite many times and if I could I would but until then I will puff away. Killing mother earth......"OH give me a Break".....

As for what a boom car is, it is more than a vehicle with a loud stereo. It is a loud stereo with a subsonic bass that penetrates your whole body. http://members.aol.com/mpwright9/boomcar6.html

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

It is a valid complaint Willow. As a child, riding in a car, when someone in the front seat threw their ash or cigarrette butts out the window, it had a eerie knack of getting in my eyes. I have really bad memories of that.

It's not really smokers most people have a problem with, it's that attitudes and rudeness of some of them.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hmmmm, when I was about sixteen, I was a hostess at a restaurant. As I greeted people, I also had to ask them if they wanted to sit in the smoking or non-smoking section. I had a woman royally chew me out once then go into a freak tantrum wanting non-smoking. I wonder if people realize the air circulates through the whole place and is perfectly able to penetrate the invisible divider? And if rights are supposed to be equal for all, why do non-smokers have more rights than smokers? People can say what they will about second hand smoke but the pesticide sprayers still spray, companies blow out gunk and pour out gunk..... I think I should have the right not to breathe all my neighbors grass chemicals, but hey, it's legal. :(

Washington, PA(Zone 6b)

I used to smoke, (thanks Zyban!) but i didn't throw my cigarette butt on the ground or out the window. I remember always going hiking and swimming and seeing all the junk people used to leave behind. We always took everything back with us and disposed of it. Every last bottle cap and cigarette butt. Throwing cigarettes out the window is littering, did I mention I can't stand litterbugs?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey, WillowWasp... I"m a smoker, and I am the one that posted about "killing Mother Earth one cigarette butt at a time". I am very careful to "field-strip" my cigarette butts and not throw them on the ground. Even the butts at home go into a can with a lid before disposal. Not a perfect solution, but the only one I have as long as I smoke.

I think I take more care of Mother Earth than my own lungs, and would quit smoking if I could (and were sufficiently motivated, LOL).

Badseed, I agree that there's not much difference in second-hand smoke and the pesticides some neighbors use. I remember reading somewhere that as nasty as the diesel trucks look, blowing out all that black smoke, it's still less harmful to our lungs than the invisible discharge of unleaded gas engines.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I smoke, and I'm done apologizing for it. I'm reasonably considerate, I don't smoke in other people's houses or cars if they don't ... I don't throw cigarette butts out of the window. I avoid places that don't allow smoking.

But, I'll be danged if I'm going to refrain from smoking in my own house or my own office or my own car while visitors REEK of cheap perfume. Talk about second hand stench - but it would be rude of me to mention it, wouldn't it? Never mind the debilitating headaches that many of us suffer due to cheap phony odors ...

So, it's not a 'pet' peeve, just an annoyance. I'm just saying before you go off on someone for smoking consider what habits you may have that can be just as offensive.

Cheri'

PS Badseed, when I get asked "Smoking or non-smoking?" my reply is "Smoking - heavily". ;-)

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

From one that has been lucky enough to quit smoking. Your day will come; some event or occasion will come along to give reason.

But, 'til then, be yourself. Nothing worse than someone that quits every night, only to stop at the nearest 7-11 in the morning for a pack. You do or you don't. What's the fuss? The fuss comes from recent 'reformers' who have all the answers. I know if I don't ask for advice, then I don't want any. Period.

I am having trouble passing McDonalds these days. My car smells the fat, salt, and sugar, and turns right in. What can I do?:)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Resist! Resist! Resist!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

no-one has said yet the stoopid butt flickers can cause verge firs and forst fires.

A friend and his wife both kicked the habit 3 months ago on the day it was confirmed she was pregnant. He was a heavier smoker who already has better skin. He told me on Saturday he doesnt miss smoking anymore.

and a little complaint about smokers ... I have two cousins who smoke and when they visit my house light up without even asking. One day I'll tell them where to go.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I would tell them where to go anyway. Its your house. You have every right to tell them not to smoke in it! maybe you telling them not to smoke might make them realise just how antisocial they are being!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

OK next time I'll tell em what they can do with their butts - pun intended LOL

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

you dont have to make a big thing of it. Just next time they come in as soon as they light up very matter of factly say "sorry but please dont smoke in here" and then carry on with what you were doing /saying. It throws them everytime ;) and hopefully avoids any confrontation :))

you dont have to put up with anything people do if you dont like it in your own house. Remember You are the master ;)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I have posted several times on this thread, and on some others that let us vent.

I wionder IF we are inviting some divisionary energy into our group? Some of these threads are seeming to get a bit heated. I certainly don't want Dave to have to step in and treat us as kindergarden kids.

What do YOU think?
