deer proof plants

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I know you guys have a lot of experience with Bambi and his mates.

A cousin of mine has recently moved house and has a garden that back onto a posh estate, as in country estate, that has feral Roe and Fallow deer.

What plants dont deer like?

What keep 'em out? other than a very high fence?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Mark, we've started adding "deer resistant" notations to plant entries in the PDB, for those that are less-tempting to Bambi and his kin. To-date, we have 366 plants listed as such: http://plantsdatabase.com/advanced.php?nn%5B16%5D=0&nn%5B1%5D=0&nn%5B2%5D=0&nn%5B3%5D=0&nn%5B4%5D=0&nn%5B5%5D=0&nn%5B6%5D=0&nn%5B7%5D=0&nn%5B8%5D=0&nn%5B9%5D=13&nn%5B23%5D=0&nn%5B10%5D=0&nn%5B12%5D=0&limit=500&Search.x=0&Search.y=0

Of course, you can narrow down the search by selecting a hardiness zone and/or type of plant (tree, shrub, vine, perennial, etc.)

I think it's the site posted above but with an altered URL.

If deer are hungry, there's not much they won't eat,and deer resistant means that,,,resistant. They _will_scarf down those plants if other food is scarce.

Can your cousin have a dog? That would be a good deterrant if she could...otherwise,it's hit or miss.

I suggested she gets her Hubby and 3 sons to have a leak around the boundry of the garden.

Heavy scented soap bars hung around the 'best' plants sometimes help too...the stinkiest deoderant stuff you can find.Got a friend who puts a bar every 10 feet around his garden....claims it works. He drills a hole in the soap and hangs it at about 3 foot high..couldn't hurt to try.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

I have a friend that 'shaves' her bar of (Irish Spring) soap with a carrot peeler around her plants--she swears it works.

Here's another good site woth tips on prevention.

Have to tell you that the tips about human hair or dogs doesn't work on the deer here. They don't run when they see me unless I move towards them, and the same for my dog.
He "fertilizes" the yard and it never deters any of the wildlife,LOL.

There's a repellant called "Liquid Fence" that's supposed to be very good, haven't tried it yet. Htop told me their dog repellant also works well on squirrels.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

Spruce trees go completely untouched because the needles are so sharp. Everything else I've tried seems to be hit or miss as newbie says, depending on how hungry the deer are. They definitely have plants that they prefer though.
