Im a domestic referee, at home with my 4 yo, the other two are at school, today I start training for a part time job(first in 5 yrs) so I can earn som holiday money. I just got over a cold but when the cold left so did my voice. How can I work the jewlrey counter at Kmart when all I can do is wisper. The last time I lost my voice I was a service writer at an auto repair shop and I couldnt even answer the phones. The stupid manager wouldnt answer them even tho he knew no one would hear me. He let that phone ring until the answering system picked it up. And yes, he was responsible for answering phones too. That man would make me so mad, oop long story on him.
Anything ever helped you guys besides shutting up. Its so hard to shut up.

A cup of warm water with the juice of half a lemon added (and perhaps a little honey) is often a big help.

Edited to add that there is also an acupuncture point associated with strengthening the voice; it is located between the inner elbow crease and the bone of the elbow, on the top of the arm (the side facing away from the body). If you simply hold your elbow for anywhere from three to 20 minutes (no pressure is necessary), in exactly the manner that you do when crossing your arms, it should help.

cool, I think I have lemons too, Thank you.

My dad's home remedy is southern comfort, honey and lemon. I don't know the particulars but he swears by it. It's got to be better than nyquil.

If I am going to get sick, it is almost always a problem with my throat. I am prone to laryngitis - which my family loves, by the way. When I was working and came down with it, I had to whisper to my patients. The funny thing was - when you whisper to people - they whisper back ! Makes for very quiet days.

Lavender is effective for a lost voice. If you know someone who is an aromatherapist you could ask them to make you a Lavender gargle.

LOL HoneyGirl, I know that feeling, when I worked in auto repair everyone in the office was heavier than me, while they could stay warmer easier than my 120lb self, I always froze, in winter they kept the heat down under 70, in summer they did the same with the a/c. All in all it wouldnt have been too bad but we had 3 doors that led outside all withing a 5 foot radius of my desk. I lost my voice at least once a year, my fingertips were always purple and I wore a jacket year round. One time I didnt have time to talk with one of our elderly customers(wich I always did) and she commented to my coworker that I seemed cold today, my coworker said "shes always cold thats why she always has a jacket on", it took my coworker a minute to realize the customer meant in a foul mood. I ended up running outside to her to let her know Iwas just very busy and apologize, I didnt realize how much our conversations meant to her till she started crying, she thought I was mad at her.
MMMMM lavender, I love lavender, Ive got a friend that might be able to help me with that, thanks Baa
