Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I read about the bombing in Istanbul and am concerned about you. Are you okay? Are you near where that happened? I can't remember where in Turkey you live!

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Bodrum? (Sp)?? I think.. Not sure where this is though.. I thought about her also.I think it is a small coastal, tourist town..I hope she is safe.

I've written her, but she doesn't always get her mail daily. I'll let you know if I hear from her.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Istanbul, and Bodrum are both on the coast not far from each other. Thanks, GW.

Istanbul is far away from Bodrum..

Well, good, at least she's not near the site of the bombing, then!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Dear friends, thank you for your concern, although we are about 8 hrs away by car, we all mourn the loss of innocent people. I was in Bodrum for the first wave of bombings, and for the second wave I was in Izmir, a much larger city that was affected in the ways of increased security. We went shopping and were searched and barricades were set up for cars not to be able to come close.
I went to Church on Sunday, my in laws were very scared for me, thinking that any religious house would be a target. Luckily the church was not bombed, Most of the churches and synagogues here in this part of the world are so old, they are actually considered historical buildings. One church i used to go to (St. Policarpo) was around during the crusades and has christians buried in the floor of the church, there is a sort of catacombe in them, anyway, we were notified by the american embassy not try to stay out of public places and not to go into crowded places/ and if you really look like an american (like me) to stay out of the public eye as sentiments can turn....

Thank you for your thoughts, our biggest worry here now is that we cant get a turkey for thanksgiving, no cranberry sauce, no yams and no pumpkin pie.
other than that life is good/

Best wishes to you all

cheers

Glad to hear you're okay, Pebble. That makes for a happy Thanksgiving, indeed.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

pebble i cant even imagine the terror you live with!
I sure hope your thanksgiving turns out good-I will be thinking of you that day and everyday!
my prayers are sent for your families safety!

God Bless You

Keeping you in our prayers, Pebble. Boy, if we'd known about your hankering for Thanksgiving trimmings, we could have sent a care package in time for Thanksgiving! I send a missionary friend of ours Jell-O since she can't get it where she lives in Switzerland.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Pebble, so glad you are alright. I'll bet you can whip up something for a Thanksgiving Dinner and it will be a thank you not to be forgotten under the circumstances. Thinking of you and wishing you a happy day.

What a great idea eyes to the rescue!!!
I wish I had seen this before, would have saved a lot of work on Wednesday LOL!
Let us know how it is pebble perhaps we can all switch to veggie turkey!

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Thank GOD you are safe. I think of you often and pray for the safety of you and your family. With so much to be thankful for don't worry too much about the traditional American holiday fare.

If Jack and I were going to be alone we would be eating meatloaf, etc. Nothing fancy or hard to fix. But we will be going to our daughter's and she is fixing dinner. We'll take some side dishes. Then a son and his girlfriend are coming here on Friday and HE is fixing us dinner. Can't get much better than that.

GOD bless and keep you and your family.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

HI guys, it's nice to see your posts.
Eyes, I looked at the recipes .... girl, do you really think anything else will take the place of Turkey?
I dont know what to make if I should try to make some roast chickens and just call it a day or what. Because everything is closed due to the Bayram, and I wouldnt be able to go get the squash or anything.
It's just funny...

I dont get much news here about the US, how is everything going? I guess the country has survived my departure?

I sure miss home = everything about it. I miss speaking english to an American, who has the same sense of humor, and same idioms etc., foreigners who speak english as a second language (which is most of the foregin population here)dont get any of your jokes etc..........

thanks for checking in with me, I will try to pop in more often and let you all know what's what here.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

You'll figure something out, imagine no turkey in turkey!!!

When did you head over there pebble, I musta missed that post? Probably not the only thing I've missed! LOL

I'm not aware of much going on here right now and would like it to stay that way.
Keep in touch,
Candee

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Better get that Christmas bird soon LOL! Glad he's coming for the holidays.

As far as your move I'll try to keep a better job of staying on top of things LOL! Probably never happen!!!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Maybe he can pack a frozen turkey in dry ice and bring it with him. Think he could get it through customs?

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

LOL - DONT THINK SO zANY, but he is bringing me a canned ham....doesnt that sound lovely?
8 days left for him to come home.
my husband went to Istanbul this morning for a 2 day business meeting, and i was thinking I hope there are no incidents.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Pebble, it is nice to see you again. No turkey in Turkey! When I was little I thought that was where turkeys came from. And I also thought Pennsylvania was here pencils came from..... I'm glad your son gets to visit for Christmas. We miss you here. How's the gardening going?

Hi, Pebble -- it must be really hard to be away from the place you called home for so long, and I pray that even though you miss the US, you and your family will come to feel just as warm and "at home" in your new place.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Thank you ladies. Would you believe when i moved back to the states when i was 17 i had the hardest time adjusting, i kept wanting to come back to turkey, then 20 some odd years go by and here i am, but I've come realise that the US was always my home, and it's hard to settle in here.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Nuttin but the bird, the whole bird........with a side of dressing!! Maybe you can dress the canned Ham up, close yer eyes and make believe!

"eyes"

Maybe someday you and your family will be able to come back to the US to live -- and if not, I hope that you'll be able to come back for visits.
