If you use ATT Webmail be alert. I just received a request to re-enter my billing information, asking for bank name acct # and PIN number. ATT does not ask that data. The eMail looked just like an ATT eMail and gave you a secure line to send your data - to an address in England (I checked the 'source' option). I cannot get to ATT to tell them, all they allow is 5,000 options from 100 layers of decision trees !!!! Arghhhhh
and none of them are 'To report a fraud' option
So look out. I wonder how many folks will be stung.
FRAUD ALERT
Padre, we have Earthlink and the same thing happened. Earthlink has an address for fraud but you have to include the header of the email. I forwarded it to them. And yes, it looked just like Earthlink too. Their colors, logo, etc.
I got one from ebay, Wanted all kinds of info for "updating their database"- and ebay never does that! So if you get one from ebay, do not reply to it
Mobi
I got the one from ebay too,I forwarded it to ebay and the wrote back that it was not sent by them and thanked me for alertng them to it.....
My neighbor was not so lucky.......
I got one from paypal. Same kind of deal. They wanted acct # and so on. Paypal had sent a warning on what to look for, back 3 or 4 months ago, so I just deleted it along with the rest of the junk.
Bernie
I have received several regarding Ebay and forwarded them onto Ebay. Never give that information out in email, no company would ever ask for that in an email, and if they do they are too irresponsible for me to be a part of.
I received an odd one from paypal saying my accounts were unverified. I was trying to send an E to paypal to see if it was real and could not copy or paste the contents of the E! While I was trying to do it a different way, a nice helpful box popped up so I could re enter all my credit card info. I finally shut it all down! Oddest thing was paypal was funny on the sender part. It was PayPa1, with a 1 instead of l. Hmmmmmm. When I went to paypal, my info was fine. Be careful.
I got something that looked like it was from Paypal saying I could no longer use their service without providing them with additional information. There is just so much of this type of thing that my red flag went up and I just deleted it. I also remember something about getting my account varified and they wanted a bank account number. My husband says don't give that to anybody over the internet. If in doubt, DON'T is a safe way to go.
When you sign up for PayPal, using a bank account, they do make two tiny deposits then you have to tell them what the deposits were. BUT, by then you have already given them your info and they don't ask again. I am not saying this for Mary, but for anyone that is new to PayPal. The fake E's look real enough!
I called ATT World headquarters here in NYC and got some action. Today a Fraud-Alert was sent to all ATT WorldNet users. I hope I saved someone from a financial loss. A few days late but better late than never.
I just read that the House has passed the CAN-SPAM Bill...and it should pass the Senate. The President has said he would sign the bill...YIPEE!!!! Jo
I just got another bogus email from "ebay security". UGGG!
Mobi
I recently trialed a few ISP's looking for a new one, ATT was one of them. I set up an email account and had spam within seconds. The next day I had over 50 emails supposedly from ebay. I didn't open them, I never do. But I did report them as spam. I think the person who had that email addy prior to me was signed up for everything all over the web because I literally had hundreds of emails from everybody and their mother. Needless to say I decided against ATT.
