another Ethics Question, sort of

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

How long do you wait for a reply to your mailing of priority mail?
I mailed out on a Thursday several priority packages. Today is Tuesday. I've had no replies. Do I wait for them to reply, or do I ask if they have received yet?

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I'd wait a week and then ask if they have received it. At best, people get busy or forget or haven't saved your e-mail address. At worst, maybe they need some etiquette training? But it's not my place to judge and I won't go there. I may have offended in that way, but I hope not. I get busy or I forget...

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I usually ask before the week is out. I can't help it, it worries me. LOL.

In one case, I never got acknowledgement or a response to my questioning email. Delivery confirmation assures me that the package was delivered, but I still don't know if the person I sent it to got it. =(

I hope I've never forgotten to acknowledge a trade, but I suppose I might have. I'm a bit ditzy sometimes. =( I would expect to be called on it, tho.

Should have been there by now, with 2-3 days seervice on average. However, I have known it to take much longer. A polite inquiry is never out of line though. Not everyone is always totally organised.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I have received priorty packages that came in 3 days from across country and some that took 10 days from within the state. So please give it at least 5 days just in case. Luckily all the plants that took 10 days to arrive were beautifully packed and arrived in good condition.

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

A note that the package has been sent, and one to confirm the package has arrived, is just common courtesy. I guess these things have to be taught.

When a package is sent, we are wondering if it will be there on time and in good condition. If we don't hear, we expect the worst.

Plus if we know a package is on it's way, then we can look for it. And not let it lay on the front porch in freezing weather over night.

I am still waiting for plants from Mass. since April. They never arrived. And the sender asked several times if they did arrive. Unfortunately, the trader had no more for trade, and I am expecting the same plant this coming April. I have traded with this person for several years. These things happen. Although we did stay in contact, and are good trading friends.

same topic, what happens when it is not a trade but the person is to pay for s/h? Should they pay for it before or after you send it? I backed out of sending a plant to someone because I felt that they weren't going to pay me back and it was about $20, which for me is a lot of money.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I think you should get the postage up front, unless it's someone you've dealt with before. After all, the person who is sending the 'for postage' is gaining nothing from the deal. That person should not assume the risk.

OTOH, I can see how someone who has never dealt with someone might be reluctant to send money not knowing that they will send the plant ... In that case, they should not ask for the trade.

Does that make sense?

Yes, that's why its confusing. I decided to just trust my instincts.

i have come to ask for postage money or stamps up front I can't afford to be stuck with the bill when i am on a set amount of income every month I have a budget and must stick with it to make ends meet and i don't want my garden money to go for someone else getting there garden filled and i don't get anything YKWIM

Thanks everyone. Just after I posted this, I did get one reply that she had received it on Saturday, but time got away from her, etc. Which I sure can understand. Think I'll send out the polite question about receiving today.
I usually ask for $ up front for the same reason as Springsong....even to subscribers to here. Unless, of course I've traded with them before. As we all do, I've traded back and forth with a couple for free or postage, we've lost count who owes who what...and that doesn't count.
The excellent thing about TT is the "your trade has been sent" letter. I do that with all my trades....I think.....

Absolutely, a person who is offering something for postage should receive their postage first. They should not run the risk of not only providing a gift, but at their own expense of mailing it! Which reminds me there is one member I owe postage to, as she sent my package first in order to determine the actual postage...

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

*blink*
Do I owe anyone anything?

I have a nagging feeling that I've forgetten a trade ... maybe it's postage I owe? There's nothing in my trade tracker, but I can't shake this feeling ...

*sigh*
