Outdoor Model trains

Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Does anyone know anything about Outdoor Model trains? Has anyone ever seen one? I have a new client who wants to install one. Souds fun. Thanks all.

I have seen a few of outstanding ones on HGTV. A couple were extremely large and one had a model train group that ran several trains over the landscape.

I was fascinated at live plants chosen for their relative scale to the train.

Good Luck!

They are G-scale trains and there are lots on ebay. I have wanted one for awhile myself. Im sure its not that tough to install. Like any railroad set! ;)

We have a local group that sets up a winter scene at a park, there is also information in the Garden Railroad Magazine.

Hi Miggy, My Mother is part of a group called Pioneer Valley Live Steamers in Southwick, Massachusetts. I'm not sure of their address, but it might not be terribly far from you if you can ferry across to CT. Not sure where in LI you are. There are also many other clubs in CT, NY, NH, etc. If you write to PVLS in Southwick, you may get a response. Or if you care to give me your address via email, I could forward it on to my mother. She is the secretary of the club.

Their trains are not scale, but are large enough to ride on and run on coal, to the best of my knowledge. All the trains are made by hand in personal machine shops and some are available for sale for someone that wants to be part of it, but doesn't have the time to make their own trains. We had a train track in our backyard when I was younger and would ride on it with my step-dad. :)

Hope this helps you. Kathy @ Misty Meadows Farm

Miggy, Howie and I think outdoor railroads are neat, too. I doubt we'll ever do a layout, but I have some links you might enjoy perusing:
