Problems replying to AOL e-mail addresses

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

How many of you are having trouble writing to friends who use AOL? I'm having this happen consistently, and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong.

If I write to an AOL subscriber directly, my e-mail goes through just fine. If I reply to an AOL subscriber's e-mail, however, it bounces back to me with an error 554.

My web host for my domain set up a test accounts and did not experience the problem, so I suspect it has to do with our ISP (all e-mail I send goes through them before it hits my serveer). All I know is, I'm frustrated!

as near as I can figure, if you strip the RE: out of the subject line, it goes thru. How weird is that? It's AOL weird ...

Give it a shot, it works for me.

Hmmmm, I'll have to try that. AOL's just too big for its britches (as if they're a real ISP, anyway!).

my thoughts exactly ...

Not having any problems getting emails through aol. Maybe its because I'm Canadian. SHHHH!!! I don't want to jinx anything because I don't know how to fix it. D

they blocked all of charter (a big ISP). I finally got through because a couple of members gave them my address.

See, and we're with Adelphia. I suspect they blocked their whole domain, too. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater...*grumble*

Hmmm...wonder if this has to do with friends not answering emails (they have aol), but yet other friends answer just fine (who also have AOL).

To answer the question at hand, ME.

Yep, I have AOL and I'll admit it isn't the best ISP in the world but as far as getting all my e/mails, I don't have a problem. I mean no one has posted on here saying that they can't get thru to me...
tiG you e/mailed me a few days ago and it came thru, or did you have to send it several times??

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Molly this was after I had friends go to bat for me. I didn't know all of them weren't getting through, I got a couple of refused messages, but most just weren't going anywhere.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

That is pretty strange. I have often thought of switching to Charter since it is already my cable company.
But I am so use to AOL now after having it for 3 years now I don't know if I could get use to a different one.
I'd I have went to bat for ya also but I didn't know there was a problem.

My webhost has Charter for his ISP and sending through them (and replying) did not cause bounces. I can write directly to someone, no problem -- it's just replying to an AOL user's e-mail that causes a bounce. It's weird!

I think re: is one of their filter words ... LOL.

A friend of mine had such a commotion with this issue that an AOL representative called her. Although she now has a real ISP, she used to volunteer for them, and found this to be way too funny. The rep could not give an explanation for why she could email directly, but not reply. He suggested that she email directly. LOL!

So, she started stripping the re: out of the subject line, and now it works. It works for me, too. Plus, it makes me giggle ...

I removed the re: and my e-mails still bounced. I have lots of examples for both AOL's and my postmaster to see, so I guess I'm off to try and get some resolution. The internet should not be this frustrating.

It must be bad if you are getting frustrated, GW. You are the one the rest of us turn to when we are frustrated! $:^()

LOL, and thanks for the vote of confidence. But, hey, I'm limited, fallible, even gullible (ask Howie!).
