Kaufmann All I can say is beautiful, You must spend a lot of time gardening. I planted sylvias in front of my house this year and also Celosia but I'm Not to happy about the way Celosia is turning out. I need to take pictures, but It takes me to long to get them developed maybe I'll get a digital camera and I wouln't have to worry. anyway love your home and garden

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Bevjane! Yes, I spend an immense amount of time in my garden and I do love it. I've never been that razy about Celosia, but the key is to plant the correct plant in an area where it will thrive. I've been through lots of trial and error. I have ripped out plenty of perfectly good, healthy plant during my gardening "career" because I wasn't happy with some aspect of them once mature. A digital camera is a good investment in your garden. I can't imagine gardening without one these days. I hope you have a blessed evening.

I've been checking out those greenhouses in your link. Good deal you got there! I am trying to figure out if my husband can beat that price in store bought materials-I think he may have a hard time! ;0) Hoping for one to put all my brugs and naners in this year-I had a horror happen with a home built one that was too light weight (used HD thickest plastic they had-but not for greenhouse) and the heater went out. killed most of my baby brugies! I will probably stick to the garage this winter until I can have a decent one built. I need a little taller one for the brugs. Looks like you will need that addition!!!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well, for now this one is going to have to do. Actually I have a new skin for it, as the zipper broke when I was moving stuff out, and the company promptly replaced it. We are not going to stay here forever, and I don't want to invest in a permanent one until we move.

That's a bummer! But that was my fear all winter long, that the electricity would go out and everything would die... Thank goodness that didn't happen.

All I will be overwintering are a few potted brugs, begonias, Christmas cacti, geraniums and a few cuttings. I'm going to reserve most of the space for seeds. Almost all my brugs are planted in the ground, and I'll just take cuttings of the special ones, hoping that the majority will survive the winter, in ground.

One final note -- you might be able to beat the price, but this thing was soooooo easy to set up. If I had a place to store the shelving, it would've come down for summer storage and I would've used the spot for annuals and more veggies...as it is, we will put the new skin on it in October, after everything has gone to seed.

Dixon, KY(Zone 7a)

Kaufmann could you tell me what a brug is ? Ive never heard of them, doesn't mean I haven't seen them, because I look at every flower I pass Just don't know the names. But since I started gardening I've got interested in names and still trying to find out a lot of some flowers that I've seen, There are a lot in the past years that I would of like to have had but couldn't find them in the nursrey around here. and since I didn't know name had to let it go .

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Bevjane -- the common name for brug is "Angel Trumpet". They are small, tropical trees with huge trumpet shaped blossoms that open at night and smell heavenly. There is an entire forum here at DG devoted to Brugmansias:

http://davesgarden.com/f/brugsetc/

Come on over, you'll probably be addicted in no time flat!

Here is a bloom I had on my Brugmansia 'Pink Beauty' in May. She is from a cutting I received from another DG member in January:

Hope this is helpful

You are so lucky to get to leave the brugs outside! LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY!!!!

Careful bevJ! As they told me in the beginning, "There are some 'brug-pushers' over there and you may become addicted instantly!!!!!"

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Just 'cause I'm leaving out doesn't mean its the right thing to do, Jenks. I can only hope that they come back...

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

I know there are people here in zone 7 that leave them out and just cut them to the ground every fall then mulching them. Some varieties are OK out here, but you will have many more that are OK down there! You can check the plants database with what types you have to see if anyone else has successfully over wintered them in your zone.

I am sure you will take lots of cuttings before you risk them all-would be a great experiment! Then you'd know which ones to continue and replace the ones that go bye bye!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh yes, I will take plenty of cuttings from the ones I want to definitely keep. I am fairly certain the versis won't survive, so they were left in pots, Snowbanks is still in a pot and a few seedlings. Other than that, it will be cuttings and seeds only in the GH as far as the brugs are concerned...

Dixon, KY(Zone 7a)

well If i've seen this one I don't remember it. How can I go about getting seed or cuttings I really like them. and do they grow in zone 6 good? Haven't seen a color in any of the pictures that I didn't like.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Hang out over at the Brugmansia Forum. This Fall there will be lots of people with cuttings available for postage. You will probably have to grow them in pots and overwinter indoors, as I don't believe they would probably survive the winter in your zone. But, they are definitely worth the effort!

County Roscommon, Ireland(Zone 8a)

Gretchen, the garden is looking beautiful. Can't wait to see the salvias in bloom.

Ive enjoyed reading this thread!

Keep up the pictures!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Osteole! Its been a fun process. More to do this fall when it cools off a bit...

Sue: the salvias are in bloom in most of the pix, I guess you just can't see them... They've been blooming pretty much non-stop for a couple of months.
