**Aurora tonite** Best chance!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

This is our BIG CHANCE!

I just posted the U.S. note here, will get the rest posted for Europe later!

Quote:

Observers in the USA should not be discouraged that it will arrive during the day of the 29th. This flare is of a magnitude that should lead to aurora visible over the entire continental US on the evening of the 29th. It may be on the northern horizon for those in Florida, Texas, and Southern California, but it should be visible.

The best viewing is from a dark area, even your back yard, with a view to the northern horizon. Look out at the sky every half hour. Typically, an intensification occurs every two hours, lasting about 1/2 hour. The maximum activity is usually around 11pm to midnight.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'll meet you there! wouldn't it be too cool???

Pine City, MN(Zone 4a)

I've been watching for it, I hope we can see it tonight! Very cloud now, hope it clears off some.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

tiG, there was a report they saw at Lake Lanier at 4 am today! I'm so excited!

Thanks for this info, Violabird!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the great info, we stayed up to see Mars so will do the same tonight!

Honor, MI(Zone 5b)

Too much rain and too many clouds here in Northern Michigan. But considering how much the people and animals in California could use, and would love, the rain we have been getting here for days now, I won't complain about not being able to see them this time. I sure hope you all get a great show, though. It's Mother Nature at her best!!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I've been out twice already...nothing but a little more light at the horizon...could be...maybe not...Will check again in a little bit.

MERCER, PA(Zone 5a)

They are coming in waves....sometimes more intense ,sometimes less. They are coming from the north horizon and then they travel up to the top of the sky (the zenith?). It's like waves of VERY fast travelling white transparent clouds. Sometimes they have been pale red. Keep watching!! It's great fun!!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Just came in and we have the red ones. They look like streaks of redder light going up to the zenith. The horizon is red too.

I saw them about 20 years ago and they were red then too.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Stupid clouds and snow are keeping me from seeing anything. :(

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Well, I must have stupid trees or nothing yet either ):

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

vi, I was in and out all night and never saw anything either. :(

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Ours were dim and hard to see, except for a few bright ones.We have lots of ambient light in the area with everyone having an outdoor light over their garages...I think that may have contributed to the faintness.

MERCER, PA(Zone 5a)

Just came in from outside. They are BRILLIANT right now !!!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

stop rubbing it in!!!!!!!! I'm really happy for you, but I want to see them so bad............

There may be another chance, today's quote:

Arrival of the shock from the solar event of the 29th resulted in continued low latitude auroras. In spite of the northward direction of the magnetic field in the solar wind, the velocity is near 1000 km/sec and there are reports of continuing high activity at low latitudes. Barring any new events, the activity will taper off. It is still worth it to check the sky on Friday and Saturday nights, because Kp is still 7

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I saw them here on Thurs night. Very beautiful and they were redish pink here.
