I did and now am missing some skin from my lips. I decided to have a dish of frozen yogurt a while ago. After scooping it out there was some stuck on the scoop. Naturally, your instinct is to lick it off before putting it in the sink, so that's what I did. Wrong move... I didn't realize it was stuck and when I pulled it away along came the skin with it.."OUCH" Must have been because the scoop was aluminum and I've heard that frozen yogurt is colder than ice cream. I know how the kid in "A Christmas Story" felt now, when his tongue stuck to the flag pole.
"Don't lick the ice cream scoop"
Ouch!!! I am glad that I use the big spoon instead; hope your lips heal quickly.
Ginlyn, we never get too old to learn. I know that hurt.
Ginny....that's what you get for not sharing with me!! LOL Jo
I remember Dad talking about getting tongue stuck to pump in Alberta (circa 1910's.) I remember at least temporarily getting tongue and/or lips stuck to Popsicles, as a kid. I guess some us have to wait to be an adult to learn that lesson.
Hope you heal soon!
Oh poor Baby.
I must say this brings back memories for me! After my kids watched the movie "A Christmas Story" we had seen it many times over and I never thought about the kid and the flagpole.
Well one VERY COLD morning while standing at the end of the driveway (where we have a chainlink fence that crosses the driveway) my 3 boys were waiting on the bus. I usually sit on the steps with my coffee and just kinda wait until the bus comes. Well that morning my middle son 10 at the time sent my youngest son to the house for a paper towel..
Didn't know why, but he gave him the paper towel and then the bus came rolling up. So off they went to school.
Later that day when they came home, my son told me that his toungue had been bleeding all the way to school and all thru breakfast. He said it soaked thru 3 paper towels! I asked him what in the world had happened and why didn't he call me?? He was too embarrassed to tell me but his younger brother spoke up and told me that he had stuck his toungue to the fence post and it froze!!!! He had pulled the skin off his toungue!! Bless his heart he learned a lesson that morning that all 3 of them will never forget.
So yes I feel for ya I bet that really did hurt.
Molly, he must have been a brave little boy for trying to keep that from you. He probably couldn't even eat his lunch that day. One thing I learned,(in addition to not licking the yogurt off)is, don't blot it with a dry paper towell.Wet it first....The dry one kept sticking to my lips.
Oh, cousin Gin, I can feel for you...as you can remember, my older rascally brothers dared me to lick the clothes line one time [knowing what it would do]Gosh, I told Mama and she almost whipped them... It bled long time too..but she made them apologize to me....I was about five years old so you can see what a memory I still have for MY age!!!!! Did your lil' grandsons see ya'do it? Get well soon...love you...
Mary, it's a wonder Mama didn't say "You had no business listening to your brothers anyhow" LOL Sister Jo
Anyone not owning up to sticking their tongue on a frozen surface is just not owning up.
Some of us even do it more than once trying to out smart the system.
Regards
Ernie more than once.
I feel for you in your pain.
Lani more than once.
Jo...more thane once....I think I still do it!! slow learner here. LOL Jo
I didn't know that could actually happen. I thought it was just a legend.
Kelli, PLEASE take our advise....it is VERY real! Do Not Try this at home LOL You will wish you hadn't! LOL
Have you not ever gotton a ice cube out of the freezer and had it stick to your wet hand? Almost the same thing, but with metel it usually brings off the skin with it!
I drink alot of ice tea and the other day I filled the glass with ice as usual and then poured the tea in. When I went to take a drink the ice cube stuck to my upper lip. Everyone but me got a good laugh. All I got was a fat upper lip. HaHa very funny.
I used to have a job taking care of 200+ dogs in Northern Montana. During the winter many times when I was feeding them my hand would get stuck to the handle of the bucket. I didn't find using mittens and trying to spoon out the warm dog food easy to do so I used bare hands for most of the time. Many days it was -10 F or colder. I still remember how much that hurt especially at night when the throbbing would set in :
