Cents Symbol

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

How come computer keyboards don't have the cents symbol? (c with a line through it) I think that typewriters used to. I don't have a really big need for the cents symbol, but I would use it more than I use #, ^, or *. I don't think I have ever used ` until right now.

I think you can add it through something called charter maping. I don't know how to do that.
You might want to post this in the Computer forum.

My keyboard has a key named "option"... but I'm a Mac person. On my keyboard, if you hold down the Option Key and type the dollar sign, you get a ’ sign. Probably something similar in Windows.

I did know how you did it but forget...."senior moment". I know you hold some key down...maybe shift...then go to the number keys on the right of your key board...and type a series of numbers......MYSTIC...help...she told me how once. Jo

Kelli,

There was a post about this awhile ago and people posted what the did to do this and many other items as well. You can either look for it under the search, or repost this question over in the computer forum and maybe someone will remember that thread and bring it up again. I would also like to know a little more.

BTW, how were your mid terms? So sorry we missed you at our So. Cal RU.

That wasn't me who had the mid terms. I couldn't come for other reasons, but I did end up having a sinus infection that weekend. That was at least as grueling as mid terms, though.

Alt + 0162 = ’

Evert, that's a lot more cumbersome than my Mac keyboard, which is the Option key, plus the $ key. Wow.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Sorry Kelli, yup your right it was another person. hehe

I'm trying Evert's suggestion here:

Ok, nothing is happening when I push down on ALT and the numbers...what am I doing wrong?

It took me a while figure out how to do it, too. You have the use the numbers over on the right side of the keyboard, not the ones above the letters.

BTW, thanks Evert!

’ Hey...that Evert is so smart...he knows more about computers than I have forgotten...or is that "I have forgotten as much as Evert knows...Nope!! He is one smart cookie!! Jo

The degree symbol is: Alt + 0176 so it is possible to type 70°.

Thanks Evert for the ’ sign. I was going to look it up but you saved me the trouble.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

’ It worked, thanks Kelli for telling me to use the right side numbers.

80°...yippee, I think I got it now.

I cannot make this work.

I press Alt+0162 and all I get is 0162. What do I need to do?

Okay, it works! Where is there a list of all the options, like the accent marks and so on?

Bird, are you using the keypad to the RIGHT of the letters (NOT on top)? Hold down ALT, do 0162, release, and the ’ sign will appear!!

If you go to your character map. It will show you how to do allot of them. It depends too on which font you are using. To find your character map go to accessories then to system tools. § τΏτ ι ( this a few )
