Highway robbery

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

I just figured out where that phrase came from. It's what the police officers charge you when you're speeding. They write out this nice little pink ticket and say, "That'll be $115, please."

Gee, can you imagine another brush with the law? Egads. I haven't gotten a traffic ticket in nearly 20 years. In my own defence, we (yes, Bethany was with me - again) exited the turnpike in Tulsa and just zipping along the highway without realizing the speed limit had dropped...by...well... 10 miles per hour. Ooops.

Ouch!! :(

Santa Clara, CA(Zone 9a)

Pretty soon you'll be on first name basis with the officers, LOL. That sure seems like a lot of money for 10 mph, but I have not had a ticket in a long time either so don't know the going rates.

My DH has strict orders to put the cruise control on even if he is going into the village. I think the local constabulary hears him leaving the farm house and races out with radar just for him. Two tickets in 3 weeks both over $300 Canadian. Ouch!!! D

Watch out Carla, or you'll be " Livin' on Tulsa Time"!!!

I don't understand why everyone has to go so fast. Everbody has a cell phone so they can talk before they get there. What is laft to say after you arrive?
There have been two CRASHES in a week near here on the 4 lane. A semitruck ran into a grain trailer behind a truck & a minivan tried to go under a farm truck full of corn. Guess who got the worst of it? Seems they should be giving tickets for stupid drivers too!
Minnesota no longer calls them accidents, they are now crashes, because someone is always doing somthing wrong!
Slow down & pay attention!!

Gee, Bernie..how do you really feel?

Did you read the part about how I just left the turnpike, which was 75 miles per hour. I wasn't in a rush. I just didn't realize that the speed limit changed.

Verona, ON

Yah Bernie!!! I couldn't agree with you more. D

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Ok, now for MY turnpike gripe! She was on the turnpike between Tulsa & Oklahoma City, which originally had a pollbooth at both ends, and at exits along the way. You paid when you got off, and the price depended on where you got on and where you got off. Some joker state senator managed to have it changed to where EVERYBODY pays at Stroud (little podunk town in joker's district).
Now if you get on or off anywhere but Tulsa or Oklahoma City, you get a refund from the amount you paid in podunk. The original pollbooths in Tulsa and OKC are gone, and drivers just zip through the empty holes. If they were still there, she would have stopped to pay the toll, and noticed the speed limit signs coming into town. You can blame senator dumbo for your speeding ticket!

My husband read about a study on cell phones. They got 6 people to drink a serious amount of hard liquor and 6 who just used cell phones while driving. The ones talking on the cell phones while driving performed WORSE than the ones who were intoxicated. Please, please everyone, pull over when using your cell phones.......

Well, on top of that, Ronna, we have the PikePass, so we don't stop anywhere along the turnpike. I was kind of surprised that the speed limit was 75 mph anyway.

Most of these gripes have been voiced on other threads. Don't use cell phones while driving. Don't put your make-up on while driving. Don't read. Don't steer with your knees. Don't eat. Don't swat your screaming kiddos in the backseat. It's all about common sense... which seems to be seriously lacking in folks these days.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

They're actually handing out speeding tickets in Tulsa, huh? Sheesh, when I did the daily commute on 244 or 75, you were a SPEED BUMP if you going under 80 mph. Probably a good thing that me and my lead foot moved over a few states ;o)

Carla, if it's any consolation, I recently got a $120 ticket for letting DD out at the curb in front of her school one day. Apparently I was "blocking traffic", although it was a right-turn only lane that went to the back of the school, and could only be used by school buses that had already come and gone. Not another car in my lane for miles. When I went to court (so I could pay court fees equivalent to the ticket, but not have the ticket on my record) I did a mental tally of how much money the 'boro collected just that morning in traffic citations. Now I think I know how they can afford our beautiful City Plaza building!

Terry,

Now that just doesn't seem right. Didn't you want to protest it?
