loosing my GH

well looks like I will be loosing my GH this year. It is at my grandmothers house next door and my bother and sister own the property now. my BIL informed me they will be tearing it down in a month. he says it is totaly rotted. he doesn't have a clue what he is looking at just doesn't want to look at it any more. yea it is not in the best shape after 60 years but it still gets the job done. what great timing just as it is getting cold. now i am going to have to try to build something temporary to house all the tender plants i have

Oh, shoot, Troy. That's a bummer. You're creative, though, and I bet you'll come up with something really good. And when you do, we want to see pictures and hear how you did it. :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Troy I am sorry! That really stinks! Are there any salvageable pieces you can use to construct a new one? Start researching hoop houses and greenhouses on the web. I have been doing this awhile and you would be amazed how quickly and inexpensively you can put some of them up!! I wish you the best of luck.

troy, nice Freudian slip! "My BOTHER and sister own...".

That's a shame, your BIL cannot be a gardener or he'd be looking for ways to save it.

Can you salvage the glass perhaps to build a new one?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that stinks, so sorry. I hope you work out a solution.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Maybe you can work out a deal with him to keep it up over the winter (with you taking care of it) & then you will HELP him take it down in the spring (& you will keep anything you can salvage). It's worth a try!

I like Ronna's idea. Anyway, won't it be too cold for him to work outside to tear it down!!?

Pardancanda:
no slip it is my brother and sister that own it. it is just that my bil forgets that and thinks he owns it and my sister doesn't argue with him about it. no he is not much of
a gardener

Ronna:
no there is no bargaining with him he is a ja$^ a$%. but i do get to take what i want of it. all the glass the furnace and the oil tank. and all the wood is going to a friend of
mine for in his wood stove. but i am going to wait and do all this AFTER he has rented the dumpster. then he will have to have it taken away mostly empty LOL i am sooo evil
and yes i do have something planed to replace it just allot smaller. the current one is 19x20

gardenwife:
I have a cement pad behind my house that is 7x14 and i got some 12x2s that are about 10-12 ft long from an old floor that was removed at work. i can cut up length ways. i will put up one that has a sloped roof 6ft on one side and 10 on the other for the snow to slide off and i am going to put it up to one of the windows so i can sort of attach it to the house for heat and air exchange, this year do to the lateness of the season i am just going to put plastic over it but in the construction of it i am going to put groves in the wood for glass and will install that late next summer.
the furnace will have to be saved for something bigger in the future and i will heat this with a kero heater and a fan in the window blowing out: and that should get me threw the winter and into the spring.when it gets hot out i can take off the plastic and put up wire mesh of some kind to keep the @#$ %&*^ local stray cats out of it

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i know this would be exspensive but maybe some of us could baby sit your plants for a while until you get something built. i could house some for ya. just an idea.
