I have talked to her, and expect to see her next weekend at the GA RU. She seems to be keeping a low profile here on DG... perhaps due to some past feuding amongst members that have been banished. (MY opinion, NOT her story!)

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I talked to her last week I think.

Guess I just keep missing her online......anyway, thanks girls, was a little concerned.

I spoke to Carol just before the roundup, and got an e-mail from her September 30th, I believe. Lisa said Carol's going to stop by and visit her while I'm down in Louisiana!

Heard from Carol the other day. She hasn't been on as she's been doing alot of yard cleanup work after the storm. She said she finally has the front yard cleaned up but there were still a lot of downed trees in the back. She IS coming to the RU! Sounds like she needs a party (:

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I talked with her twice this week. She is getting the yard shaped back up. Adam isn't working the long hours anymore. She told me that they were having steak and shrimp tonight and he was doing the cooking.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I guess plans have changed a bit I'll miss her at Lisa's this time around, but Virginia's not far from Ohio and I expect we'll visit out there sometime!

Hey Carol come out and play. Tell us how things are going with the clean up .

Eyes, I apologize for not emailing you and causing you to worry. You've always been a dear friend - please forgive me.

Things have been kinda frustrating after the hurricane. We finally counted 29 trees have fallen/uprooted and the insurance company would only cover the three that actually touched an insured structure - the tree that was left hanging over the house was our responsibility, and it was our responsibility to remove it or else we would be liable for whatever damage happened if it decided to fall later. My first idea was to think they would try to protect us or the property insured, but we found we had to protect ourselves.

Since Adam works for Va Power he didn't get a chance to get a good look at things until 12 days later - 1.8 million people had lost power. His shortest day was 13.5 hours and since the hurricane destroyed the ferry office his commute was about 50-60 miles one way.

Faced with the circumstances if we ever had a windy day brewing, and concern about our liability if that tree fell on our house; I called a tree company. Prices had jumped dramatically and they said they wanted $850 to remove just that one tree - usual price is $100 - $125.

We decided to take our chances and wait. Adam took the tree down himself last week. He said to stay inside until it fell - do you think he didn't want me out there giving him advice??? I had heard the story about the lone man in the woods when the tree falls. LOL

My other challenge with the insurance company was over refrigerated/frozen food lost. At first I was told that we wouldn't be reimbursed for items hunted/fished, or for anything grown in the garden that I had frozen for later use - since it wasn't store bought and they couldn't put a price on it. That really wound my clock - as the saying goes. I had to go to the grocery store so I could give them an itemized list with replacement values. There must have been an angel looking over us because we did end up getting the full amount and they didn't take the deductable off either.

In all honesty, it will probably take us at least three months to get things back to normal. We plan on having alot of bonfires this fall - chainsaws are still scarce to buy, but there hasn't been a run on marshmallows yet. :o)

Just because I haven't posted lately doesn't mean I've forgotten you - when the going gets tough the great people here are always so supportive and caring. It's really means alot to me. You all are the best and I love you for it.

Wow, what a lot of work-not only with the clean-up,but with the insurance company. Ahem-I have my own issues there.
Glad to hear that you are all right.
Keep my name until next season, in case I have some flowers that you need.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Hey Carol, there's plenty of chainsaws down here--get those neighbors to finance your trip and load up!

Proud of your fight with the insurance creeps (-;

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, gosh, Carol! So Adam got that tree down okay - great! Good to hear from you, girlfriend. :)
