Wake up call for a school bus driver

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

My DS is a single parent with 2 boys. Noah,6 goes to school..Asher,4 does not. He recently changed day care and had not yet given me address or phone#. He drops the boys in the morning and Noah gets on and off the bus there.

Yesterday Miss Caroline(day care person) had a Dr. appointment and would not be home to get Noah off the bus. I was asked to get him at a different stop...same bus. A note was sent with Noah and I also called school to confirm.

Well the bus arrived and the driver said she had left Noah at Miss Caroline's. Panic time. It wasn't too far so she told me to follow her back there and then she would finish her route.

We got there and Noah was in the yard crying his little heart out. Needless to say I started crying as well. Once I got him belted in and we were on the way home, he said he had started to run to my house, but some dogs started chasing him barking and growling so he ran back to Miss Caroline's. I saw the dogs..they were big. God forbid tug of war between a 6 year old and 2-3 large dogs you know who is gonna win.

Back at my house I debated calling school myself or letting DS handle it. The more I thought about it and what could have happened I knew that I needed to call right away. School said they would look into where the lack of communication was.

The bus driver called me last night to check on Noah and to say once more how sorry she was. She had found the note that he had given her,but at the time was distracted and had not read it. She allowed as how she would pay closer attention to notes given to her and read them right away.

Sorry this is so long...anyway I have great respect for school bus drivers..it's not a job I would want. This situation could very easily have had a tragic ending. So please, any bus drivers here take the time to read notes that the kids give you as soon as you get them. And I give you credit for being willing to take on the responsibilty of our kids...I know they can be rowdy at times.

I am so glad this had a happy ending! I would imagine that the bus driver had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about what could have been. I know a couple of drivers here and they have hearts as big as Texas and worry over their charges as if they were their own. That she followed went back with you and then called to check on him later, tells me that this driver cares as well and will be twice as diligent in the future.

All scary stories should have happy endings!

I'm still shaking over what might have happened. We're in the country, but had Noah made it to my house he would have had to go along a major 4 lane highway. Who knows who might have picked him up. He now has my name and phone number in his back pack..God forbid he should ever need it. I have to say though that I really like his bus driver.

I'm so glad Noah is alright. Sounds like you've got a caring bus driver there.
