Personally, I don't trust my long haired girls and sticky fingered little ones with gas! LOL Hubby would have loved a gas stove though.
Enough is Enough!

The gas stoves of recent times have been improved, so the gunk and stuff doesn't drop down into the belly of the stove. Just lift off the black iron grates (or whatever they are made of today) and take out the shiny metal plate for a wipe off. I would like to try the new flat top stove, but can't justify the cost, when what I have works great.
Now, because we are so educated about gas caps, we can pull into the car dealer's lot, and right off tell them we must have the gas cap on the left or right. The salesperson will immediately recognize our expertise on the subject of cars, and give us their best deal.LOL (lots of luck)
Has anyone ever had problems finding the gas cap lock on a rental car? I remember one in New Hampshire a few years ago that had the lock release inside the car. I couldn't find it anywhere. Finally after some time, it was on the bottom of the dash. What a dumb idea. You talk about frustrated.LOL
Automobile engineers. OK, info from those people. LOL
One of my brothers is an engineer for a division of GM. He is the one who designed the new automatic transmission that is now in every truck sold in the world. Proud? You bet!
The only comment/complaint from consumers? Noise. So after designing this brand-new transmission in '95 (the previous one was designed in the 1960's), he and his team have spent 5 years trying to make a truck transmission not sound like a truck. Talk about frustrating! All the people who drive SUVs who need to believe it is a car complain that it sounds like a truck. Well, guess what? They are! So GM has spent billions and billions of dollars trying to make a truck transmission silent. Greg has gotten it to be "almost" silent, but still the complaints. Enough ranting from me!
According to Greg, the only reason why the fuel area is different on different cars and models is so that people who buy a new car will know that they have a new car. If everything were the same as on the previous year's model, why buy a new one? OK, he is cynical too.
The major reason, according to GM people, is because service station people demand it that way. Seems too many drivers cannot accurately judge how to pull up to a gas pump that is on the passenger side without hitting it. That is why the concrete poles have been installed -- and those get hit often by people who cannot judge on the passenger side.
Every car that I have had in my life, Toyota '75, Honda '81, Datsun '83, Hyundai '88, Toyota '86, Toyota '91, Toyota '97, all the fuel tanks have been on the driver side. All the cars that I have driven enough to know where the fuel tank intake is, many Ford models, a few Mopars, a couple VW, all have been on the driver side. The only one that was different was a '74 Porsche. It was on the outside of the rear window, yep, on top of the trunk. Odd place, but it was a very different kind of car. I almost always spilled a few drops as I was filling it.
You can sure be proud of our brother! Every truck in the world. WOW! I thought some of the Chevrolet SUVs sounded a little noisy as they start from a stop. But they won't have to stop for repairs so much, that's for sure.
Golddog, yep, sure, I will share my brother with you :)
He teases me that I am the one responsible for his problem. I told him the old joke about the Rolls Royce ad many years ago. "'The loudest thing in a Rolls Royce going 60 mph is the clock.' 'We gotta do something about that clock!'"
Greg repeated the joke at work, and down came the order to make the transmission silent! LOL But they did spring for his tuition for his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engingeering at Perdue University so he could better address the problem. He repaid that by getting 2 new patents for them.
Brothers. Ya just gotta love 'em. Here's a photo of him and his DW and DD.
Nice looking family!
A really good point. I've been lucky so far in that every car I've ever owned has been on the drivers side or behind the license plate. I will pay more attention the next time I fill up. I always thought folks just pulled in the wrong way by accident or forgot what side theirs was on!!!
LOLOLOL! Every time I trade cars the gas cap is not where I'm used to having it! For instance, 1984 Plymouth Reliant--on passenger side. 1998 Plymouth Breeze--driver's side. Most frustrating car of all--1976 Ford Grand Torino! I seriously couldn't find it and had to ask for help at the gas station.(blush blush) It was located under the license plate, but instead of lifting up the plate from the bottom, like some other car I had, this crazy car's was opened by pulling the top of the plate down! Small wonder I'm often in the wrong lane to be able to fill 'er up! PS All of these wacky cars were American made.
Don't know much about these new kind of cars and the odd names cars but my 25 Franklin had a gas tank on the rear bumper with the filler cap and fuel gauge both between the spare tire and the left tail lite The 37 chevy PU had the fuel tank under the seat you had to take the seat up to fill that one When Henery started to build the T's and A moldes the tank was right up on top of the dash in front of the windshield The 58 Olds cap was in the right rear tail light then the 59 Olds behind the liscense plate Now the 86 GNC PU has a cap on both sides and the 95 Ford PU has two on the drivers side How times has changed And by the way my old 68 Ford PU still has the gas tank behind the seat with the cap on the cab near the left door handle
Arptiger, that "history lesson" is priceless! It sounds like the only place they haven't put the gas cap is on the tire rim under the hubcap. Makes you wonder if all the design engineers weren't having some sort of secret competition among themselves. Can't you just picture the guy who designed that '37 PU snickering as he said " Boy, they're Never gonna beat this one!"
