Had a tetanus shot lately?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

The nurse at school hunted me down th other day. Somehow (I can't imagine) she found out that I was a gardener. Bringing in those plants gives you away every time! Anyway, she asked me if I was up to date on my tetnus shots. Errr, uggg, ummmmmm. It seems that most cases of adult tetnus come form-------DIRT! Gardeners are the victims. My last shot ws 8 years ago. How 'bout you?

Hmmmm good point...but I had mine when my bird last year bit my lip all the way through...Scared me to death. He's now in the Breeder program LOL....its an african grey timeleh. Also, I might add I got another bird that is mine, the other is now my husbands bird LOL...geesh

Thanks for the important info. something for all gardeners to think about for sure. Check your records everyone!!!! You may need da shot after all :-) hehe

The last I heard, tetnus shots are only given every ten years or so unless there is a puncture wound which will get get you a booster.

'Tis true Leaflady. That's correct :-)

Ten years is max on them. I guess those of us who garden barefooted (except when using a shovel) and bare handed are especially vulnerable. My DH had a fit when he caught me using the weedeater barefooted.

This is another thread with valious information. Thanks!

You're supposed to wear shoes when you use a shovel? It's true - I DO learn somethin' new every day! (Just kidding - I *usually* slip on some sort of shoes when I'm shoveling...)

Anyway, thanks for the reminder. Those of us who wander around barefoot whenever possible, and scratch around in the dirt with our bare hands are certainly vulnerable to encountering a piece of broken glass, rusty nail, staple, etc.

My last shot was '97 - I volunteered for it when I realized it had been too many years to count since the one before that.
