Cranes, Planes & Automobiles

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Hope we get to see these!

Fun wildlife news...
I am passing this information along to you, in the event you may be
interested in looking over the CRANES.

A group of whooping cranes raised in captivity are about to be
reintroduced to the flock. These young birds, who are now in Wisconsin,
are about to be taught their migratory route and reunited with their
flock in Florida.

Who's escorting them and showing them the migratory flyway?
An ultralight plane.
Where's the path they'll be taking?
Right over Atlanta!
See their migratory route and learn more at
"http://www.bringbackthecranes.org/back/route.htm".
Also visit the cranes' progress at Journey South - a great website to
study migratory wildlife
"http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/crane/WCEPHighlights03.html".

Best wishes for great crane watching!

For any of you folks who get up WI way, the International Crane Foundation is a great place to visit. It is located about half-way between Madison and Wisconsin Dells.
They have different species and you can watch a costumed "crane person" teach baby cranes about "appropriate behavior". They are trying to save and reintroduce cranes to the wild and seem to have success with the whooping cranes. Last years group made it back through (except one). This information may be on the hyperlink-would not open for me.

We have cranes all along the creeks in the country here. I didn't know there was a problem with diminishing numbers of cranes and the need to re-introduce them to the wild. Thanks. The Ultra-Light plane "guide" is quite interesting!

That's marvellous and reminds me of a similar story and the movie about the geese following a plane to Florida I believe.....awesome!!!
