This was taking earlier this morning before the latest flurry. There's a picture of my elephant ear on the tropical forum.

October 2, snow
Oh, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Our temps here have been unseasonably c-c-c-c-cold, too. (Highs in the upper 50s/low 60s vs. average temps of upper 70s/low 80s.)
I heard about that on the news this morning. And they were discussing the possibility of it getting to us here in Western PA also. We had ice on a couple bridges this morning. I love winter and all but I have brugs still outside with buds on them!! **sigh**
OH NO~!! It better NOT come my way!! Too much diggin' to do in the garden!! Covering the tender plants so they don't get zapped from the possible frost tonight!
Boo-Hoo!! Just brought the jasmines and mandevilla's in for their long nap. Definate frost here tonight.
Goodness Kathleen! I thought my zone was worse than yours. LOL We've had frosts and the big freeze-out, but not actual snow yet. We did see some flurries at the football game the other night, but didn't amount to much.
You know what's surprising me? My roses and petunias are all still blooming and look like nothing happened. Beside them the dahlias, glads, and most everything else is looking pretty depressed.
My area hasn't seen snow yet either...I guess we are blessed
once every blue moon. Makes up for getting snow at the
end of May beginning of June...which also happens vary
rarely.
We have had temps in the high 80s again this week. They are saying it will still be in the 70s next week too. Usually we have had our first frost by now.
Ponditis, you have our weather! You give it back right now and take yours - we don't want it! LOL
Good gracious Kathleen. Is this the start of the long winter then or just a passing phase until the real stuff comes along?? We had our first frost this morning but it's not set to continue...yet!! I take it you have a new camera since you are posting right away!! :-)
Here in Western PA we had a very heavy frost last night with temps at my home in the low 30's. I know I lost a few plants..just not enough hours in the day to dig them all up. Hubby was driving to the northern part of PA and ran into a couple good snow storms.
Lol to all of you farther north, we have snow in late May, too. Lake Erie misbehaves on a regular basis. This is probably just a little wake up call. We did have a freeze this morning - it WASN'T freezing yesterday! I think the elephant ear has probably gone to the jungle in the sky.
Margaret, my camera decided to behave itself. It has become notional, but once in a great while it cooperates. I will get the film in my REAL camera taken up and send you pictures!
Gosh, New York had snow before cold Finland. This have to tell everybody, LOL.
hehe, Mitjo, I'm not sure that that is an honor for New York! Just remember, I am 500 miles west of NYC.
Oh you poor thing Kathleen....snow is not a word in our dictionary. The word "overcast" is at the top of ours though. It has been in the high 60's since we came home Tues. nite and the sun hasn't shone it's face until 1-2pm every day and then only for a short while and then the clouds came in for the evening. I am not used to this coolness this early in the year and I don't like it one bit!!! hehehehe
My garden is struggling to stay alive for a little while longer, but there are a few things that don't seem to care if Fall is in the air.
Donna
Heheh, Yeah, maybe not;)
We got the snow on tuesday as well it was actually kind of pretty! :~) Now it's pouring rain and blowing like the dickins here in Southwestern Ontario. :~(
NoH2O, you got OUR rain this year and we want it back. You can HAVE this hot weather. I love fall.
We haven't even had frost here in Finland yet! :) At least not in our garden. :D Flowers are still blooming.. I like this.
For once we weren't the first ones!
Nċja, it wont be long until we get our first frost and snow. First snow usually comes in mid November.
All right, you two Finnish gardeners! You're making my little plot sound like the north pole!lol We had frost Thursday night - a lot of black leaves out there. I hope it stops raining/snowing/ice pelleting soon. I hate to plant tulip bulbs in the rain.
We usually don't have serious snow until November, but this early October bout with the white stuff is not that uncommon. It all has to do with cold Canadian air and warm Lake Erie waters and being at precisely the right altitude for the mix to let loose the snow. A short lesson in weather dynamics!
:D So do the English and American gardeners in the Spring ;) Tulips are blooming there when we are starting to see the first snowdrops. Hmph :{
