roflol!!!!!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Minniegrannie, i'd like to get you and Gone2seeds wife together, we'd never stop laughing.
the hard part is the two years quarantine, you have to provide a map of where each one is, and they check on them ever so often. i'd much rather grow seedlings than have to worry about that kind of stuff, plus the cost.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Why is the U.S. so strict about brugs from out of the country anyway? So they get a little virus and die - flowers that are already here do too.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think it is because that virus could also kill off our tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, and the list goes on. Man, I'd starve to death without those veggies!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Phew! I got scared for a minute. Thanks tiG for verifying my stash is legal. :)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Boy, what I wouldn't give for some home grown vine-ripened tomatoes like my parents used to get from my uncle's farm when I was just a little girl. The ones you buy from the store are tasteless mush these days. Guess we'd better keep those brugs away for awhile longer. lol

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

the virused ones yes! unfortunately stranglebrand is already here.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Happy Birthday with all your crosses!:-)

Reading this thread about legal and not legal pollen??? I know pollen are legal for US.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder where the seeds are. The seeds Dr. Preissel brought in (USA). Bringing seeds into the states is not legal, as I know.
He met ( past from to meet) only one or two persons in the states...

These seeds are not legal and the seedlings are not, too.

Hopefully your brugpolice will not watch it. I had to reply some very special questions at ATL........

So glad my friends are legal....lol.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey Kell where have you been, we were getting ready to send out the dogs!! tiG is right we can still get pollen into the states without any problems, I have some in the pollen bank. Your package went out yesterday! I hope you like them, in about two weeks, I will have more ready to go.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Ludger, you didn't have any troubles bringing plants back to Germany from the states? I thought German laws were strict too... but I guess they're not as strict as the US. Sometimes I think the US is beating it's head against the wall. I imagine laws will only get worse as time goes on.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Poppy, I did not bring in any plants from states to germany.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Just found this thread again! And glad I did.

Gosh ABADS is sure a great site, if I ever would sit down and read it I would be so much smarter! Thanks tig for that informative link.

And to think I have said no to lots of euro pink pollen. Glad I am the only dumb one around!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell, bad girl, bad girl. I know our mothers taught us good girls always say no, but there are sometimes we just have to say yes. lol

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Ludger:
I have two seedlings from seeds that Dr. Preissel gave to Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami, FL. I purchased the seedlings from a Member's Day plant sale at Fairchild Tropical Garden earlier this month http://www.fairchildgarden.org/horticulture/membersday03-sale.html The plants were advertised as hybrids developed in Germany but the sign at the sale read, "These plants were grown at the garden from seeds donated by Dr. Hans-Georg Preissel." I bought one seedling marked Brugmansia aurea hybrid and the other marked Brugmansia insignis. They have not bloomed yet.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

wow cool!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Cynthia... you can buy some L'Amour crosses from cala's store right here on DG! :o) The cuttings are limited due to the newness of this beauty.
I bought some Rosamond x L'Amour, and hoping for some beauties!
So.. now I have a question... sorry. Since I bought the seeds.. do I contact Cala about a name? Or can I do my initial wish, and name it after someone? Just wondering for my self... I dont want to upset anyone.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Wish you much luck with the german seeds.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee, Shelly didn't you know the name a brug rule?? Your first good pink has to have Kell in the name regardless of where or how you got the seed. Email me when the time comes, I will guide you! LOL

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Gosh! What was I thinkin?? I know better now! Thanks Kell!

Shelly221, Never count your pinks before they bloom!;) But if you get a keeper, it is polite to ask the seed maker if it something they would like named and the 1st cutting should go to that person .
delecie that's great! .. We need to drum up some South FL memebers to do a roundup one day at one of the wonderful sales on the east coast!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

No really Shelly, I think you will get great babies from those. I do believe as a courtesy you should give Susie credit as the hybridizer and you as the grower. It is nice if you offer her a piece of it. You get to name it yourself though some do confer with the hybridizer and sometimes name it together and sometimes there is a theme for one pod of seedlings.

I wish you great luck with your special seeds and your names! I already have my first good pink named though she is still no where in sight! Hey, I am an optimistic sort!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

hmmmmmmmmm i figured if i bought the seeds it would be up to me, shows what i know. unfortunately, the ones i bought from cala had the weevils. good luck shelly, have them come up yet?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Thanks John! Im not counting my pinks! :o) Im lookin for red! Just kidding seriously... I dont care what comes of them. I just want to see if this will be an OK cross or not. There is so much more than color from what I am learning. Color really doesnt mean anything (to me)
Thank you again!

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

John:

I was thinking the same thing a few weeks ago. However, I was thinking that since I'm a novice gardener, it'll be awhile before I'll have plants to share with others. However, I'm working on it and looking forward to a South Florida roundup one day! :-)

Veronica

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Arlene, brugs have weevils?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh Arlene! I just saw your post. Nope nothing yet, I have them in moist paper towels since 10/20. What the heck are weevils? Umm I was thinking the same thing Arlene, if I buy seeds elsewhere, and I have forgotten where, what then? I just dont want anyone upset.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Minigrannie, i guess that's what you call them. some of us get them (i do), and some don't. i picked a pod yesterday and it had some rotten, chewed out seeds inside the cork fresh off the plant. some of the seeds looked really nice when peeled....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shelly, it is easy to keep track. Just put the hybridizers name on the tag you made for the seeds. I plant my seedlings in groups of each kind and I tie the tag on one of the brugs in the group. Last year I separated each group of seedlings with a clump of cannas so I didn't get them mixed up. It worked well and I only had to tag one of the seedlings. I hope this makes some kind of sense. LOL!!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Easy Brugie?? And you are saying I hope this makes some kinda sense?? lmao!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shelly, I have trouble putting it down in words. It really is easy to keep track of them. You can even number them and keep the pertinent info in a notebook with the corresponding numbers. You will figure out a good way to do it. AND.........don't you be laughing too hard now!!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I have started putting stuff down now.. to be honest.. I didnt think I would end up with so many! LOL I was warned of this...

Veronica, I think it will happen! Novice? I,ve seen some of your named Plumies! ; )
Arlene ,hehehe ,,,did you name your weevils?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

John, now don't be laughing! if i could find them i'd mash them, lol.... i would have a complex if some others didn't have them too.
Shelly i hope they all grow up beautiful and bloom in the spring, will be beauties.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Hey yeah! Im gonna have to look up weevils! Sheesh! Are those the things we used too play with as kids?? No No thats a weeble! Sorry! I get to talkin and just space things out.. Im notorious for spacing out things.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

lol... i have no clue, something eats the seeds while they are still in the pod. i know they have occurred in florida, tennessee and iowa, not sure about other places. maybe its part of survival of the fittest and they just eat the seeds that will grown into ugly brugs?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL Arlene! They must only eat the ugly ones! I pealed my seeds when I got em, and they look good so far. But this was the 1st time I have seen a peeled seed...Oh man! I just looked at em on google. Not to be rude.. but those yuckers can stay where they are! Dont want any of them! Specially with all the brugs in our BR! Can you imagine waking to one of those under the sheets with ya? NO THANK YOU!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think last year was a bad year for whatever was eating the seeds. I've had a few this year in my Butterfly and PB crosses. The other crosses don't seem to be affected, YET!!
