I GOT MY DIRT, YEA!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know how aware how lucky some of you gardeners are that have dirt but here in the desert you have to be a miner to have a garden. My DH asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I told him DIRT! "you want dirt for your birthday?" he asked. Yes, ten large bags of topsoil. Well, mean while I found a source for Free Top Soil-You Haul. He and his brother went and got me a small trailer load of wonderful loamy dirt. I, to say the least, am a very happy camper. Now I can get out there and build my raised bed gardens and plant my little heart out. Thanks to all of you at DG's and to my DH and BIL. Just had to tell someone and you are my best friends.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday! That's a wonderful present, and I understand completely how bad you wanted it.

A couple years ago I asked for compost, top soil and mulch for Mother's Day to build a flowerbed when I first started gardening seriously. DH and DS thought I'd lost my mind, but one day they sneaked off with the pickup using some excuse that they needed to go pick up something. When they came back they had the pickup loaded with bags of all the goodies I wanted as well as one of those things to roll garden hose on. I was very excited about it. I still think that's the best present I've ever gotten.

Have a GREAT Birthday! Even if the big day is already past, you can enjoy it all the while you are building your raised beds and planting your plants. :)

Yeah for you Jan! Happy Birthday!! People who don't garden have no idea how important topsoil and mulch are to those of us who do. My birthday is at Christmas but my DH never forgets to add something for my garden list so when spring comes I'm READY. Have a great day on Tuesday. D

Thanks D, I'm asking for a smaller shovel for Christmas.Hehehe.

EEK- I've been to Tombstone! I can understand your excitement!

Tombstone has got to be one of the coolest places to visit ever in the U.S, but it's as dry as toast out in your neck of the woods!

Boy, have you got that right Indashade. You have realy got to be careful and wear lots of sun protection here. But it's awfully nice in the winter.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday. I agree that mulch, good dirt, etc. are some of the nicest gifts a gardener can get. Next on the list of great gifts would be tools, fertilizers, plants, bulbs, hoses, hose reels, etc.

Good dirt is a great gift. Manpower to go with it is even better. ;-) But I take what I can get ... LOL.
