cut and paste from Dave's forums

Tiffin, OH(Zone 6a)

Is it just my ignorance(again) or is there a reason I don't seem to be able to cut and paste from Dave's forums to ex: Emails? There are great jokes in the jokes forum and real pertinent info in other forums that I would like to share with friends who are not members of Dave's but I haven't been able to get them to send successfully. Other websites sometimes have a "Email this page to a friend" feature but don't know if this is possible here. Help please! MW

Just select (highlight) the text, copy, and paste into your e-mail or word processor, or right here. See sample below:

"A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position..."

To highlight, click at the beginning and shift-click the end. Or drag your mouse, left button depressed, across the text. It will get a dark background.

If you highlight the section you want. Then hold down the control key (ctrl) and c key at the same time it copys it to your clipboard. Once you get to the word document, place your cursor where you want to text to start. Then hold down the control key again and press the V key. That pastes it on the document.

Forgive me if you already know this, just trying to be helpful.

I sometimes copy jokes from DG and email them to my kindred spirits. It works slicker than snot on you know what.

Thanks, all. Davena, you can't make it too simple for me!! I printed this thread and will keep it by the computer so the next time I won't be saying "Now what am I supposed to do?" Thanks again MW

MWHIT - I do it all the time. I just stole, I mean copied, your post above and pasted it to a new post.

Just highlight with left mousie, copy with right mousie, and paste with right mousie.

Here is your post that I "borrowed:"

Thanks, all. Davena, you can't make it too simple for me!! I printed this thread and will keep it by the computer so the next time I won't be saying "Now what am I supposed to do?" Thanks again MW

mwhit- I am glad to help. I like the Ctrl-C - Ctrl V way because I am not always in a window that will cut and paste neatly. But the other suggestions work well too.

Clip board? Oh boy. I had better skip this one.

Holland, MI(Zone 6a)

Hey Gold - Don't sweat the small stuff. A clip board is what the little elf inside the computer holds to store the stuff that you copy or cut. When you paste it, The little elf sends what you copied to where you paste, and then the clip board is ready to receive another something or other that you choose to paste or cut.

I sure hope that this makes things clear for you. If you need more clarification, may I suggest you contact your fellow Pennsylvanian, Mr. TC.

Thanks! I think TC has taken the day off.

huh, clipboard......I musta lost it somewhere and haven't found it since....

Where do you find it...

I see it popup sometimes but don't know where it is... if I click on it I get the message copied to Clipboard and then its gone...where is it? Bet theres a ton of stuff on it too..... :o)

The clipboard clears the previous "material" you have on it before it writes to ifself again. Just consider it a PC post-it note. :-)

I love these tips. I have only had a computer since March and there are so many tips and techniques that I don't know. I wonder if it would be possible to set up a thread where people could post how to do things like copy etc? So many of you have so many tricks that would help us beginners....
I have begun saving websites and threads from DG that have particular interest to me. I save them in folders in my links section. How can I copy something from a wordfile and add it to an existing site or thread I have saved? For instance in my pre Web days I kept a document with organic recipes for insecticides. How do I transfer that to my links folder for pesticides? Also, I have saved many PDB pictures in my Wish list folder also on links. Can I add a note to myself on that?
Speaking of computer tricks, right now I am at the library because my computer is on the fritz. A friend is checking it out - any tricks on how to get it back faster? LOL

The DG FAQ has some how-to's. I did a few in my journal, too. Some are outdated for previous versions of Irfanview, but others are timeless because they deal with Windows. http://davesgarden.com/j/vbc/gardenwife/5250/

The book 'Windows for Dummies' is very helpful and quite inexpensive.

Being a blonde at heart I cut then go to my email and paste...then email it to myself...then I can save it to My Doucments. Not the brightest bulb on the block I know!! LOL Jo

roadrunner, your suggestion makes the most sense. I'll try it!

See what I mean? You all have so many different, neat tips and tricks to pick from. And I will check out the DG FAQ's and 'Windows for (ouch) Dummies' too.

The 'Dummies' is on my list for today. 1/2 hour at night should bring results. I hear terms mentioned now and don't know what is be discussed. My computer training consists of two 1/2 hour internet sessions at the local library. The 'instructor' was a ninth grade student who was very intimidated by 'us' adults. By the second session I finally had an email account set up. Thanks for recommending the book.

Speaking of being intimidated, Golddog, I am becoming intimidated by what little I know about the cyber world. Now after last night, they throw Linux into the hopper and have me all confused. I think I will just stay with what works until and I sure that there is something better.
